Historia
In a case that spans 20 years, Harry Bosch links the bullet from a recent crime to a file from 1992, the killing of a young female photographer during the L.A. riots. Harry originally investigated the murder, but it was then handed off to the Riot Crimes Task Force and never solved. Now Bosch's ballistics match indicates that her death was not random violence, but something more personal, and connected to a deeper intrigue. Like an investigator combing through the wreckage after a plane crash, Bosch searches for the "black box", the one piece of evidence that will pull the case together.

Great story! Narration was only negative.

Loved discovering a WW2 story told from a new geographical location (first one I've read based in Madrid/Africa). The narrator really was a struggle for me to stick with. Lots of pauses in the middle of sentences and strange pronunciations.

Particularly WW2 era novels. This is one of my favorites. A strong female hero for us ladies to look up to. My other hero is Corrie ten Boom. They are so different, yet both so inspiring.

3rd book is the best in series
Revisado: 07-24-20
I listened to the first two, and then dragged my feet on downloading the third. I enjoyed the first although I found it a little "cheesy." The second book I found way too redundant. The book spent what felt like hours re-explaining much of what happened in the first book. I felt like I could have skipped the first one altogether. But what a nice surprise the 3rd book was! I really enjoyed it and am so glad I didn't skip it like I almost did.

Historia
The Summer Garden is the third volume in Simons's magnificent trilogy - a Russian Thorn Birds - which follows a love that survived the terrible siege of Leningrad during World War Two, a heartbreaking separation, and a glorious reunion in America, only to be supremely tested by the hatred, fear, and uncertainty of the Cold War. You will never forget the lovers Tatiana and Alexander and their story of enduring love and commitment, and you will cherish every moment spent in The Summer Garden.

I blushed a lot at the excessive love scenes, but
Revisado: 06-30-20
I blushed a lot at the excessive and descriptive *love* scenes, but overall this trilogy is some of the best written historical fiction I've found. I learned so much about aspects of war I had never come across either in history books or the thousands of WW2 novels I've read. From the Seige of Leningrad to the Vietnam war I found myself entranced and opening many Google searches to go down rabbit holes of "what actually happened," thank you to the author who had me spellbound on every topic, from the mundane American life to the trenches in the tropics and beyond. I shed plenty of tears, happy and sad. Good versus evil is studied on so many levels. While most characters have some of both within them when seen at different stages, there are two characters who stick out the most - one for being pure good and one for being pure evil. I was so sad when this trilogy ended. Tatianna Matanova will forever be with me.
