Historia
Two years ago, a hostile Prime Minister launched the Monochrome inquiry, investigating "historical over-reaching" by the British Secret Service “to investigate historical over-reaching.” Monochrome’s mission was to ferret out any hint of misconduct by any MI5 officer—and allowed Griselda Fleet and Malcolm Kyle, the two civil servants seconded to the project, unfettered access to any and all confidential information in the Service archives in order to do so. But MI5’s formidable First Desk did not become Britain’s top spy by accident, and she has successfully thwarted the inquiry at every turn.

Narration flat- no emotion in the reading- story arc predictable- seems as if written by AI rather than a warm blooded human.

The originality of the story, its overall structure and rather excellent writing made this an unusually compelling listen.

Narration was quite good as well!
I’m interested in more by this author.
I recommend it. The gay aspects are handled honestly and not cheaply.

Historia
New Delhi, 3 a.m. A speeding Mercedes jumps the curb and in the blink of an eye, five people are dead. It’s a rich man’s car, but when the dust settles there is no rich man at all, just a shell-shocked servant who cannot explain the strange series of events that led to this crime. Nor can he foresee the dark drama that is about to unfold. Deftly shifting through time and perspective in contemporary India, Age of Vice is an epic, action-packed story propelled by the seductive wealth, startling corruption, and bloodthirsty violence of the Wadia family.

Historia
Lloyd Salter has OCD issues with noise and mess, and he's uncomfortable with human interaction. When his ex claimed the only thing perfect enough to live up to his standards was an android, Lloyd dismissed it. SATinc is the largest manufacturer of androids in Australia, including the Fully Compatible Units known as an A-Class 10. Their latest design is the Synthetic Human Android UNit, otherwise known as SHAUN. Shaun is compatible to Lloyd's every need; the perfect fit on an intellectual and physical basis. But Lloyd soon realizes Shaun's not like other A-Class androids.

Not too involved
Revisado: 11-07-22
What I liked:
there was an effort for a curious gay sci-fi tale; the human protagonist was a philosophy professor; the physicality of the android.
What I did not like:
The stunningly unrelentless panic in the voice of the narrator. The quaver made me think of Katherine Hepburn when she said “the calla lilies are in bloom again” in whichever old movie that was. It NEVER stopped & I began to wonder if the narrator simply spoke that way to everybody all the time, every day, every hour, every minute. For his sake, I was pleased to find out that that was not the case when he spoke during the end credits.
The arc of the story was formulaic in a very familiar way.
I’m sorry to be so critical but Audible is not offering here what I would consider to be a literary find.
One last thing & I’m so not a prude…
Half the book was the two of them going at it in bed or wherever… HALF! This is not a rewarding listen.
Lastly, if the human protagonist said “Oh boy!” once he said it 24 times I’m fairly sure. Get a different exclamation of pleasure, please!
Ok, not worth a credit if you’re paying a monthly 16$. No offense to the author just a fair minded commentary by me.
Peace out

Historia
Once there was a young woman from a well-to-do New England family who never quite fit with the drawing rooms and parlors of her kin. Called instead to the tangled woods and wild cliffs surrounding her family’s estate, Margaret Harlowe grew both stranger and more beautiful as she cultivated her uncanny power. Soon, whispers of “witch” dogged her footsteps, and Margaret’s power began to wind itself with the tendrils of something darker.

Uncharmed
Revisado: 10-24-22
I have to say that I gave this entire book every chance I could conceive of to succeed as an interesting story that was also fully developed. I did not find it to be so. I found instead that it was difficult to get past an array, or rather a full constellation of predictable tropes.
I went along for the ride primarily because I paid a credit for what audible or perhaps, Amazon chooses to describe as a “great read”.
Of course, everyone hears a narrator in their own way, but this woman’s style of narration was quite distracting to me, as it very often sounded like someone on the radio reading the news of the day. I did not find appropriate emotional emphasis for the words that she rather often chose to deliver in a matter of fact, and at times sensational style. Odd choice I thought…
It was a bit preachy and a sort of combination of morality tales, In trying to categorize it, I would say it should be in the young adult age range.
I will be requesting a credit refund, which is something I rarely do.

Through decades of music by one of the best-selling musicians of all time, who created classics like "Fire and Rain" and "Carolina in My Mind", James Taylor has doled out his history in the poetry of his work. Taylor says his early life is, "the source of many of my songs", and Break Shot is a tour of his first 21 years in rich, new detail.

Such an honest touching story from a kind soul like JT. If I’d ever met him I now know I would want him as a friend.
One of the most succinct autobiographies I’ve ever come across and yet it felt somehow as complete as necessary to get a full measure of the man. Bravo!
