Historia
Twenty-five years ago, Neil Howe and the late William Strauss dazzled the world with a provocative new theory of American history. Looking back at the last 500 years, they’d uncovered a distinct pattern: modern history moves in cycles, each one lasting roughly 80 to 100 years, the length of a long human life, with each cycle composed of four eras—or “turnings”—that always arrive in the same order and each last about 25 years. The last of these eras—the fourth turning—was always the most perilous, a period of civic upheaval and national mobilization.

He seems to lean left in this book.
Revisado: 02-25-24
I read the first book years ago. It’s didn’t seem political at all just historical. In the opening chapter of this book their is lots of talk of democracy. We don’t have a democracy we have a republic. He also doesn’t know or understand our Constitutional Republic. These are historical factors that play into the turnings. That being said, I think he is incorrect in what’s coming. But I but I still believe in American exceptionalism and that we will come out with our Republic.

I’ve just finished part one. It was a frenetic mess. Trying to decide whether to go on, skip chapters or ask for my credit back. I hate everything the circle represents and the useful idiots it empowers. Welcome the Borg.

Not what I expected
Revisado: 09-20-19
I enjoyed volume 1 but #2 not so much. The pace is really slow. I read this genre a lot and was looking forward to the hybrid aspects of this series. I’m about halfway through and am considering returning the book. I’m not sure why I should care about how much these men love their wives. Certainly not over multiple chapters of endless discussion. We need more action , less soul searching. Spoiler alert- save the Russian mafia for a separate series.
I have listened to Kevin Pierce on many occasions and have loved his work. Not this time. The two main male characters sound exactly alike. I had to listen to several sections twice to make sure who was speaking.

Christmas has arrived in sleepy McGill, Georgia, but holiday cheer can't keep temperamental Stella Reid from swinging a rolling pin at anyone who crosses her bad side. This season, there are plenty. First, an anonymous grinch vandalizes a celebrated nativity display. Far worse, the scandalous Prissy Carr is found dead in an alley behind a tavern. With police puzzled over the murder, Stella decides to stir the local gossip pot for clues on the culprit's identity, and it turns out that Prissy held a prominent spot on the naughty list.

Great book
Revisado: 11-17-18
I love Granny Reid. We need more love and caring and cleverness like hers. A smart heroine with compassion and good teaching for her grandkids but not a push over. The publishers summary was written by someone who had not read the book. I listened to a sample from my library. Glad I did because it was from the prologue not the middle of the book like Audible. I fell in love with Granny immediately. Can not wait for the next one. BTW I have not read the Savanah Reid books but started listening to the samples looking for more Granny. I was very disappointed. The Savanah from this book does not seem likely to grow up to be that woman. I guess we will see. Loved the narrator , Mil Nicholson- amazing!!!

Historia
The only possible thing that could make Morgan's world even more difficult happened. The Japanese fleet off the coast of California was wiped out. An even that Morgan and friends and family only knew about because of the radio broadcasts from the Radio Free Redoubt. So far removed from them it barely warranted notice. That is until the Chinese retaliated by launching a nuclear counter-strike against Mac Dill Air Force base. This, did warrant their attention and had the potential to profoundly impact their lives.

I’m disappointed
Revisado: 05-10-18
I have read most of the books in this series. I really enjoyed the first several books but as the series has progressed the adolescent locker room talk has become tiresome. I know the focus market for this series is guys but they are not the only readers of this genre. I really don’t know why these characters can’t be heroes and gentlemen as least occasionally.

From the best-selling author of the Graham's Resolution series comes book two in the Surrender the Sun series. Conditions in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, are proving unsustainable in the year 2030. The mini ice age, caused by the Maunder Minimum effects, are brutal at best, and life systems are limited and failing fast. Bishop seeks a safe haven for his new family and the only answer leads him back to his nightmares. Leaving the comfort of their luxury hotel is their only answer, but the journey may prove more perilous than their current existence.

Why so short?
Revisado: 01-20-18
I have enjoyed the first two books but why not make it a total two books or even one? I read a lot of books in this genre and this one is ok. The continuity is not great and we don’t get any usable cold weather survival info. And what about the awesome natural medicine used by Jax to heal lungs and gunshots, no info there either. I also find it hard to believe that “modern “ cold weather survival gear from the year 2030 doesn’t provide protection from the cold better than animal hides. The characters are not really compelling enough to make me need to know what happens. I’m curious about book three but I have a rule about spending a credit on a book less than 5 hrs long. The first two were really too short. Total time for all three is less than 17hrs. Could have easily been two books and I would have felt less cheated.

Historia
Morgan and his extended family could see the light at the end of the tunnel, dim though it may be. There was the promise of power once again. The plant was being repaired, and it looked as though it may actually run. While it meant lots of hard, sweaty work, the reward was worth the investment. The farm was growing strong, and community involvement was good. People were finally coming to terms with the fact that they needed to work together. So far Mother Nature had been on their side. But that, too, was about to change.

Have read them all.
Revisado: 07-27-17
This has been an interesting series. Most apocalyptic series don't get this far into the "recovery ". My only complaint is that as we have moved forward the antics of the men have become adolescent at times. Do I know that this stuff happens in every locker room in The world? Yes. Do I want to read about it? No. This stuff isn't advancing the story line. The characters are established already. Making them seem less that the heros that they are is sad. We all would need stress relief in a situation like these characters have everyday but find a better way.

Historia
Lauren Russell often wondered why her father had been so adamant about teaching her skills that most other fathers wouldn't even consider teaching their daughters. Ever since she was little, she had been taught how to live and survive outdoors, and how to use firearms to protect herself and those around her. Some of the training had been a bit extreme. Or had it been? Many of her questions were answered the day the world as she knew it ended.

Too much and not enough
Revisado: 05-13-17
I'm not new to teotwawki stories they comprise about 3/4 of my library actually.
One of the things that attracted me to this book was the strong female character who was groomed by her father to survive. No spoiler intended but at the first real conflict the "heroine" collapses into the protection of a man she hardly knows. REALLY? Anyway .....
The too much of the book is about violence. Yes, the gangs rule the new world, they are brutal, they will get killed by the good guys. This includes motorcycle gangs and DHS thugs but do we need a literal blow by blow description of a grown man beating a teenage girl to death and then how he washes his hands? This one was not for me. A waste of a credit.

Don't bother
Revisado: 08-12-16
Certainly not the quality of the first book. The narrator is awful. After reading the reviews I had decided against buying the book but several months later after reading some other EMP fiction decided to give it a try. Boy was I wrong. There is so much good stuff out there don't waste a credit on this.

Don't waste your time!
Revisado: 04-14-16
I am an avid reader of this genre so I decided to give this a try despite its short length. The characters are shallow and it didn't take long to realize that I didn't care whether they lived or died. Don't waste your time or money(credit) on this one.
