Weak story

Waited unsuccessfully for the story to become interesting. I liked the fantastical elements, but ultimately the story fell flat.

Historia
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

Nice book for teenage girls.

Predictable plot. Clearly written for adolescent girls. All others should think twice. I bought because it was on sale, wish I hadn’t.

Historia
In 2010 my wife, our young daughter, and a good friend of mine embarked on the journey of a lifetime. We chose the famous Appalachian Trail (AT) as our destination to make personal history. Being experienced hikers, and my friend and I being ex-military, we were well prepared for the hike ahead. My wife and I had some idea of what we were all getting into, but this was the first AT visit, for my friend and my daughter. I kept day-by-day journal entries of those 24 adventurous days, and 12 years later have turned those into this book. Book 1 of a new series I have titled, "An Appalachian ...

The computer reader constantly refers to the “at” instead of the “A.T.” It only got worse from there. Atrocious writing.

Awful

Narrated by a computer voice and seems to have been written by a kindergartener. May be the worst item I’ve ever gotten from audible.

Historia
The Goldfinch is a haunted odyssey through present-day America and a drama of enthralling force and acuity. It begins with a boy. Theo Decker, a 13-year-old New Yorker, miraculously survives an accident that kills his mother. Abandoned by his father, Theo is taken in by the family of a wealthy friend. Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don't know how to talk to him, and tormented above all by his unbearable longing for his mother, he clings to one thing that reminds him of her: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the underworld of art.

Tedious
Revisado: 05-18-17
After an interesting beginning, the pace slows to a crawl with little going on except descriptions of kids getting drunk and doing drugs. Towards the end things pick up, but the payoff at the end is not worth the effort required to get there.

If you are interested in graphic descriptions of European sex shops, then this is the book for you. Otherwise, I highly recommend another of Bryson's books, A Walk in the Woods.

Historia
In May 2006, armed only with a small rucksack and a staff, Tony Kevin, an overweight, sedentary, 63-year-old former diplomat, set off on an eight-week trek across Spain. But this was not just a very long walk — it was a pilgrimage. From Granada, in the southeast, to Santiago de Compostela, in the far northwest, Tony followed the Via Mozarabe and the Via de la Plata, two of the many pilgrim trails that crisscross Spain and Portugal and that all lead to a single destination.

Author went "left" at every turn.
Revisado: 12-02-15
A mediocre book that spends more time exploring the author's leftist ideology than the Camino. If you can slog through the typical and predictable liberal rants, he occasionally includes somewhat entertaining passages describing the actual pilgrimage.

Get an authoritative guide to this extraordinary work in 24 thought-provoking and enlightening lectures, divided into three parts: the historical and intellectual background of the Apocalypse; a close reading of John's text, focusing on the meaning of its images; and the wide-ranging impact of the book on Christian and Western history. Throughout these lectures, Professor Koester focuses on what John actually wrote. what his situation tells us about his meaning, how that meaning can be applied to our own lives, and how contemporary biblical scholars relate Revelation to the modern world.
