Best Ever Seas book so far!
Revisado: 04-01-25
Best Ever Seas book so far! Another novel full of new and old beloved characters, fresh heart pounding adventures, heart crushing events, & heart warming endings. I loved the underlying themes of overcoming harsh adversities. May this novel inspire women everywhere to ignore nah-sayers, uplift others up who are struggling, & embrace their true selves (“Be kind, be gentle, & be monstrous).

Best AI Narration
Revisado: 03-09-25
AI NARRATION
PROS: Narration didn’t sound annoying, disjointed, rushed, or robotic. With AI you don’t have to deal with hearing the narrator’s breath, spit, or those awful dramatic “S” and “P” sounds. As far as AI reading goes, this was pretty good.
CONS: AI reading wasn’t able to use different accents for the different characters, it lost the opportunity to add emphasis on exciting parts, and lacked a bit of personality.
STORY
PROS: Appropriate for YA, uses simple verbiage, has relatable side characters.
CONS: Lacks plot complexity, lacks character development, and lacks world building.

Most schools are about being the best. This school? It's about being the worst. Calder Academy is where the rogue paranormals go. The ones who break the rules or lose control. And when that happens for vamps, werewolves, witches, and dark fae? It gets pretty freaking scary. I should know. Because I'm trapped here.

Good plot, great characters, but drags on
Revisado: 05-14-24
The book drags a bit and over describes some situations. Some instances seem way to drawn out and it made me antsy to get to the story line.
Wolff did a great job with character building and I loved the main character as well as the supporting characters. Tracey always produces distinctive lovable characters and evil villainous characters.
I found this novel entertaining and am looking forward to Book 2.
*Side Note - I originally thought this spin-off series would revolve around Izzy & Remi as the main characters, then found out they were supporting characters after the book was released. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the new characters and believe she kept Remi & Izzy’s characters consistent to their original behaviors and characteristics which was fun!
Narrators: I found the female’s voice too high pitched, and found the male voice to not match the character I was expecting.

Good narration, just an ok story
Revisado: 03-08-24
I enjoyed the narrator of this book. She did a good job with different accents and characters. She did not read too fast or too slow, I found the reading relaxing. The story was just OK, I wasn’t too entranced with it, but was not mad about it either. It had a good ending, wrapped up with a little bow. I was satisfied, stopping at the first book and not continuing on with the series due to the ending not leaving off on a big cliff hanging.

Jess Carter only wants to finish out her senior year of high school. She only came to the tiny town of Banks, Idaho, to make sure her dad doesn't do anything too crazy. Dangerous stalkers and a group of students known as the Pack are the opposite of what she plans on, but that doesn't change the fact that she has zero intentions of getting involved. Except, the stalkers are after her; the insanely hot guy is one of the high school coaches; and the Pack...well, let's just say the name suits them. With nowhere else to turn, Jess must rely on the Pack to protect her.

It was neat to get Dom’s POV on the entire 1st book before she started alternating between Dom & Jess’ POV. I wouldn’t buy this book because it’s practically the same story, but it was a good listen with the Audible Membership / Subscription since it is included.

Meh - least favorite Holly Black novel
Revisado: 01-23-24
Performance was weird, narrator had difficultly keeping pace. He struggled to keep the story moving and spoke slowly a lot. I was disappointed with the slow story line and repetitiveness of the same things happening. I found myself kind of annoyed with the main character, hopefully there will be character growth in book 2. I thought the ending plans for the crime family were done hastily & I was left unsatisfied with the state of affairs. Holly Black did such a great job with her other novels & this one fell so very flat.
She did do a good job leaving off on a cliff hanger for a followup novel and building lovable side characters.

Great Sequel
Revisado: 01-04-24
This sequel was a great follow-up with lovable supporting characters, intriguing world building, & a cliff hanger that left me gaping!
PROS:
I enjoyed getting the Human Queen’s POV in this novel. I always knew there would be so much potential with her character & the author did not disappoint. I loved getting the intimate knowledge of her time in the castle, I hope the 3rd installment will continue to utilize her POV & follow-up with more character development. The world building was well done! I loved the descriptions of the characters’ travel by magical means, the unique beasts of the fallen kingdom, & multi-cultural aspects of the different countries as well as races. That cliff hanger has me quickly writing this review so I can start book 3 ASAP.
CONS:
I was disappointed with the leading lady in this novel, I thought she would have developed a bit quicker but she continues to be self deprecating, insecure, & gets in her own way. However, I need to keep in mind that she is young & is not even 25 years old, so here is to hoping she is able to come into her birthright & be the queen her people need in the 3rd novel.
