Historia
Prayer combines the best of Tozer on prayer into one volume. Tozer was captured by the great wonder of God, and he regarded prayer as the primary means of coming into his presence. But if our everyday life is filled with the barrenness of busyness and there is no serious urgency to pray, we forfeit the wonder of being conformed to the image of Christ and knowing our God more intimately - the true Christian life.

This was a fantastic book and really made me reflect. I will certainly be reading this again soon. There were a couple of places I got stuck, but it is challenging me to dig deeper and help me in the long run. I wish there was a study guide that went with it as well. Highly recommend!

Historia
From his rapid-fire stand-up comedy riffs to his breakout role in Mork & Mindy and his Academy Award-winning performance in Good Will Hunting, Robin Williams was a singularly innovative and beloved entertainer. He often came across as a man possessed, holding forth on culture and politics while mixing in personal revelations - all with mercurial, tongue-twisting intensity as he inhabited and shed one character after another with lightning speed. But as Dave Itzkoff shows in this revelatory biography, Williams’ comic brilliance masked a deep well of conflicting emotions and self-doubt.

Lovely book!
Revisado: 09-03-24
I remember watching Robin as I grew up. So much of the films, comedy, and characters were how I marked my life. I remember running around the house when I was about 6 or 7 screaming Good Morning Vietnam! Drove my mom nuts, but the speed of his humor captured me! Dead Poets Society made me feel less like an outsider at school, where I struggled. He taught me it was okay to be myself. So much work over the years to show us how to laugh. This book had me laughing and crying many times. The chapter recounting his death brought me back to the day I heard he was gone. I sat on the floor of my living room and cried. For those who truly heard him, it was so much more than comedy, it was a inexplicable friendship. Out of the whole book I'd love to say to Cody, Zac, and Zelda, thank you for sharing him with us! ❤️

Historia
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

Fantastic and touching book
Revisado: 07-20-24
I enjoyed this book enormously! There were so many events and emotions that he explained better than I could from a kid who lived similar experiences. While we might have slightly different versions of these stories, the point is we all have a story and we just want to be understood. Vance feels like a fellow hillbilly/southerner/American that you could sit and chat with without having to explain yourself. He just gets it, because he lived it. I had this book in my list for a while until a friend urged me to read it saying, "he's just like us! He's one of us!"

Historia
Exploring the depths of Elijah's fascinating life as a prophet of God, Swindoll doesn't gloss over his human weaknesses; rather, he presents an honest picture of this ordinary man who God transformed into His personal spokesman to confront idolatry and evil in the ancient world. In Elijah, renowned Bible teacher Swindoll analyzes the impact of the Old Testament prophet. Elijah was uncompromisingly strong, yet self-controlled. Disciplined, yet forgiving. Audaciously courageous, yet kind. Heroic in the heat of battle, yet humble in the aftermath.

Historia
In the Bible, God showed us what leadership looks like in his kingdom, and at first, a lot of it seems upside down. The first shall be last. The master shall be the servant. But how can we apply these counterintuitive truths in our own world today? The first step, it turns out, is to become a good follower - a disciple of Christ who always lets him take the lead. Rather than focusing on the nuts and bolts of management, Lead Like Christ looks closely at how leaders can better imitate the greatest leader of all.

Historia
The number one New York Times best-selling story about American Olympic triumph in Nazi Germany, the inspiration for the PBS documentary The Boys of '36, broadcast to coincide with the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 80th anniversary of the boys' gold medal race. Out of the depths of the Depression comes an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times - the improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.

Historia
How do you solve a problem like James Madison? The fourth president is one of the most confounding figures in early American history; his political trajectory seems almost intentionally inconsistent. He was both for and against a strong federal government. He wrote about the dangers of political parties in the Federalist Papers and then helped to found the Republican Party just a few years later. This so-called Madison problem has occupied scholars for ages.

Historia
The story of Jonah is one of the most well-known parables in the Bible. It is also the most misunderstood. Many people, even those who are nonreligious, are familiar with Jonah: A rebellious prophet who defies God and is swallowed by a whale. But there's much more to Jonah's story than most of us realize. In The Prodigal Prophet, pastor and New York Times best-selling author Timothy Keller reveals the hidden depths within the book of Jonah. Keller makes the case that Jonah was one of the worst prophets in the entire Bible.

Historia
Hard times come for all in life, with no real explanation. When we walk through suffering, it has the potential to devastate and destroy, or to be the gateway to gratitude and joy. Elisabeth Elliot was no stranger to suffering. Her first husband, Jim, was murdered by the Waoroni people in Ecuador moments after he arrived in hopes of sharing the gospel. Her second husband was lost to cancer. Yet, it was in her deepest suffering that she learned the deepest lessons about God.
