Prose that’s both lyrical and precise, full of love and compassion and hope, deeply spiritual in a somehow very grounded way.

What a beautiful book! Anthony Doerr’s mind is capacious—there’s something going on (and something to be learned) in every word.

Beautiful novel, perfect narration. I kept backing up to hear again a passage out a phrase.

I enjoyed listening to this book – not the best ever, but it kept my interest – and then in an epilogue at the very end, Edbäck reveals that the dreadful secret at its center is something that did not happen in Sweden. I was sort of shocked, as I'm guessing that lots of readers will come away thinking that Swedes participated in the same sorts of unspeakable practices as the Nazis did – something that is not true. This seems very irresponsible to me. I should have read more closely the Washington Post review that sent me to this novel:

"Every author of fiction set in the past has to gauge how tolerant readers will be with pure invention, and mysteries are imaginative confections as a rule. But because Ekback’s book has within its scope the politics of a particular moment – Sweden on the tightrope of neutrality in 1943 – the demand to hew close to the record was perhaps higher than she reckoned. Though the overly speculative nature of the story is a weakness, its construction and dramatic denouncement are quite satisfying, and this what-if story illuminates a little-explored corner of wartime Europe." (Clare McHugh)

There are some very inauthentic-sounding reviews of this reading of the Koran here on the Audible website, but this one is for real! I've long meant to read the Koran and never managed to do so. Simon Barber's terrific narration makes it a joy to listen to. The prefatory note on the translator and the translation is excellent.

This is one of the best books I've listened to in a long time. It made me cry and made my heart sing! The characters are all quirky, complicated, and have led broken lives. But the book is about love, love of all kinds. It's a beautiful thing.

I loved being in Kavalier & Clay's world. David Colacci's reading captures it perfectly. What a great, great book!

This is a beautifully read Gothic tale for young people, fun for adults, too. Think The Secret Garden plus Dickens with just a dash of alternative world: those wolves!

I'm so glad that I discovered The Horse Boy through Audible! I sort of wonder how I missed hearing about the book when it was published, but I'm glad that I was able to hear Rupert Isaacson telling his own story. This is a real treasure.

Silly book. I don't understand why all these plants are supposed to be so rare. Some of them are quite common. Plus, Lila, the main character, is thoroughly unlikeable.
