Not What I Expected
Revisado: 10-06-24
There was a lot of focus on guns, ammunition, and protecting oneself. While these are necessary I expected more about caring for others who are outside of a small friendship circle. I was disappointed that Christians were shown bribing employees of stores as if that were ok. I was also disappointed that Christians killed people not to leave witnesses. To me that's not ok.

Historia
Recruited by the US Army and Navy from small towns and elite colleges, more than 10,000 women served as codebreakers during World War II. While their brothers and boyfriends took up arms, these women moved to Washington and learned the meticulous work of codebreaking. Their efforts shortened the war, saved countless lives, and gave them access to careers previously denied to them.

Surprisingly Great Listen
Revisado: 04-29-18
I thought I would be bored, and boy was I wrong! The author mixed the multiple biographies together well. I felt the thrill and bewilderment those women must have felt when the government sought them out but was so mysterious about why.
I do wish the author hadn't spent so long describing how women were not treated as equal to men during the period. That went on for so long that it got a little redundant for me. That is the only complaint I have about the book though.
The narrator was easy to listen to and I enjoyed her voice.
I will be listening to this book over again to pick up threads I missed the first time around. Before listening to this book I had no idea how much we in free world today owe to these great women! How different the outcome of the 2nd World War could have been without them...

Historia
Most of us know we own too much stuff. We feel the weight and burden of our clutter, and we tire of cleaning and managing and organizing. While excess consumption leads to bigger houses, faster cars, fancier technology, and cluttered homes, it never brings happiness. Rather, it results in a desire for more. It redirects our greatest passions to things that can never fulfill, and it distracts us from the very lives we wish we were living. But it doesn't have to be this way.

Very Eye Opening
Revisado: 02-12-17
I loved this book! I never realized before how all this junk I have accumulated is keeping me from doing what I really want to do. I've seen reviews where listeners complained that there wasn't enough on "how to do it." Well, as for me personally, I can figure out most of the "how" by myself. I needed to know the "why". This book explained the "why" in very positive uplifting ways. It also gave me enough basic "how to" strategies to get me started. This book is a keeper!

Historia
In the heart of America, a metropolis is quietly destroying itself. Detroit, once the richest city in the nation, is now its poorest. Once the vanguard of America’s machine age - mass production, automobiles, and blue-collar jobs - Detroit is now America’s capital for unemployment, illiteracy, foreclosure, and dropouts. With the steel-eyed reportage that has become his trademark and the righteous indignation that only a native son can possess, journalist Charlie LeDuff sets out to uncover what has brought low this once-vibrant city, his city.

Historia
A powerful memoir from the late former US Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. With the same directness that defined his career in public service, Rumsfeld's memoir is filled with previously undisclosed details and insights about the Bush administration, 9/11, and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. It also features Rumsfeld's unique and often surprising observations on eight decades of history. Both a fascinating narrative and an unprecedented glimpse into history, Known and Unknown captures the legacy of one of the most influential men in public service.

Revisado: 06-08-15
Loved the book. Rumsfeld has a down home way as he speaks. He is refreshingly frank about mistakes he and others made. He is also just as frank about the successes. This kind of honesty is unusual in a litigation fearful society.

I can see why this one is so popular.
Revisado: 08-31-12
This isn't your typical self-help book. The author goes into the neurology of habits as well as the psychology. What a helpful audio book! There are lots of anecdotal stories to keep a listener's interest on a long car ride, and the informational tidbits are peppered in--between the stories. This book is a positive, encouraging book, not a negative condemning one. If you have a bad habit you are having trouble breaking, I highly recommend this book. It is already helping me.
