Surprisingly excellent!
Revisado: 03-18-21
Was not sure what to expect with this one but it was a very good story and performance. If you were a teen in the 80s you will enjoy all the references since the book takes place then.
In all a great story, not scary but just plain good.
Worth a credit and a listen.

Historia
When Mouse’s dad asks her to clean out her dead grandmother's house, she says yes. After all, how bad could it be? Answer: pretty bad. Grandma was a hoarder, and her house is stuffed with useless rubbish. That would be horrific enough, but there’s more - Mouse stumbles across her step-grandfather’s journal, which at first seems to be filled with nonsensical rants...until Mouse encounters some of the terrifying things he described for herself.

I wanted something different, boy did I get it!
Revisado: 05-01-20
This book is hard to explain, I'm still not sure what it was all about. Some weird things in the woods known as the 'holler people' but they aren't people they are weird effigies made out of bones and stuff...and they want to capture this woman that they think can help them continue their line...but she can't...or something like that.
Story okay, it had its moments but leaves you scratching your head at the end.
Performance by Hillary Huber is excellent as always 5 stars for keeping me engaged in the story alone since it was so confusing.
I can't say I would recommend this one or not.

Clines and Porter have done it again!
Revisado: 03-05-20
Once again another top-notch story from Mr. Clines in this series and as always a great performance by Ray Porter. Some characters from previous books are in this one and some new ones as well, as always a great pace to the story and storytelling.
If you haven't yet listened to ANYTHING narrated by the great Ray Porter you are truly missing out. He is one of the best if not THE best narrator working today in my humble opinion. You swear it is a full cast narrating with Mr. Porter I kid you not the voices he gives to the people in the story are that good.
Do yourself a favor and pick up this one it's a no brainer.

Historia
A young boy is found horribly murdered in a mock crucifixion. Is the murderer the elderly woman who witnessed the crime? A neurologist who can no longer bear the pain life inflicts on its victims? A psychiatrist with a macabre sense of humor and a guilty secret? A mysterious mental patient, locked in silent isolation? Lieutenant Kinderman follows a bewildering trail that links all these people, confronting a new enigma at every turn even as more murders surface. Why does each victim suffer the same dreadful mutilations? Why are two of the victims priests?

Really wanted to like this...
Revisado: 02-18-20
First off I loved "The Exorcist" on audio read by the author William Peter Blatty, this, however, does not live up to that book. I have listened to Joe Hemple before and liked his books, this time it seems he was just rushing to get it done, I don't mean in tempo I mean in the fact that he didn't really put any effort into making the characters distinct enough to tell them apart. Everyone sounded the same at one point and I couldn't follow the story. Maybe I'm spoiled listening to Ray Porter and R.C. Bray they know how to make the characters sound distinct and in other books, by Hemple, I could tell them apart but not in this one.
I've noticed Mr. Hemple putting out a lot of books in a short time so I'm guessing that is why this sounds that way, Maybe he didn't have the time to decide how each person sounded and just went with the standard narrator reading thing with no inflections, voice changes or accents to differentiate them. Some may like that but to me, it's hard to follow.

Historia
Drast and Tyran might be considered a bit black-hearted, or even immoral. Drast is cunning but reckless, hunting for admiration. Tyran is calculating but tactless, searching for affection. When the two brothers set aside their ambitions to fulfill their father's desire for immortality, they readily discover many opportunities for redemption.

Dragons, magic and political turmoil!
Revisado: 01-24-20
This is my first venture into The Thrice Nine Realms and it was a pretty good one!
The story surrounds two brothers who think they are the heroes of the story but they are actually the villains but you end up rooting for them anyway! Granted they do some nasty things but when told from their point of view and when you find out the reasons why they are doing them you start to feel a little sympathy for them or at least I did.
The story reads like an epic tale of a land long ago with dragons, magic and some political spice. Yes they kill people and yes they do some things you would think was drastic but it's sort of like something I once heard on "Talking Dead" (not that there are any zombies in this book) but they said what if the story had all started from Negan's point of view, then you would think that Rick and his buddies were the villains. That sort of sums up this book!
The narration was great with Todd Menesses giving everyone a distinct voice and character even some personality which I think leads to sympathy for at least one of the brothers. Some people may not like it when a narrator uses accents for characters but since these tales supposedly take place in a sort of Slavic country they fit for me.
The story is well fleshed out with the characters and in all, it's a great book to get you out of the daily grind.
Give it a listen you won't be disappointed.
Now on to book two!

When the history of horror comics was written, one name stood and still stands above the rest: EC Comics. With equal parts suspense, gore, camp, and revenge, the triumvirate of EC’s horror output laid the groundwork for what was to come from many of the genre’s greatest writers and directors. Now, AudioComics (a division of Pocket Universe Productions) presents EC’s The Vault of Horror, its stories adapted and presented in an audiorich fully immersive setting complete with a full cast, scoring, and soundscapes.

Great stories, too loud production
Revisado: 12-13-19
The stories and performances for this audiobook were great, reminded me of reading the old comics as a kid. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars overall is that in the first 10 or so stories the background music and effects drowned out the actors' voices on many occasions making it hard to hear ( I listen in my car while commuting.) That is the only negative I have for this, does it make it not worth purchasing...HELL NO!

Super great!
Revisado: 12-13-19
I have collected comics since the '70s and loved every one of the heroes that the author talks about in the book, it was refreshing to hear his take on these heroes because oftentimes they mirrored my thoughts as well. Many times a new insight into the significance of the character would pop up and give me an 'aha' moment.
As for the narrator, Mr. Hite does an excellent job presenting the book that kept me interested through the whole thing. Truly an award-winning performance.
If you like comics and superheroes and American pop culture you will enjoy this book!

Historia
Luke Gillis is barely dragging himself through college. Of course, if he wrote term papers the way he thrashed bank robbers, he’d probably be a doctor by now. His mentor is the Miracle Worker. Yes, that Miracle Worker. Some say he’s more outlaw than hero, but beggars can’t be choosers. Still, Luke must be doing something right. The U.S. Army has invited his alter ego—the dashing speedster Spitball—on a top-secret mission. With the country’s premier superhero team missing-in-action, this could be his big break.

Zombies and superheroes...yes please!
Revisado: 12-07-19
First off I love zombie books and movies, second to that I love superheroes as well..put the two together and you have a winning combination in my book. That's what this book has, great narration as well and a really cool story involving among other things a government coverup about the outbreak, however the source is very different from the usual tale. I won't spoil that one here you will have to listen for it yourself.

Different zombie story
Revisado: 12-07-19
First off the zombies can talk, which I thought was a little strange but then at the story went along it added up. This isn't so much like your typical end of the world story, it's more like the beginning and one man seeing things trying to determine if he is going crazy or not. Has a classic ending like the original 'Invasion of the Bodysnatchers" movie so that was pretty cool. Overall I will check out the second one.

Not really tales of terror...
Revisado: 09-13-19
The first and last story was the best in my opinion but none of them were extremely terrorizing or scary. Production was great however as were the performances. Worth your time but not a big scare if that's what you are looking for.
