Historia
Peter is a Dublin lawyer in his thirties—successful, competent, and apparently unassailable. But in the wake of their father’s death, he’s medicating himself to sleep and struggling to manage his relationships with two very different women—his enduring first love, Sylvia, and Naomi, a college student for whom life is one long joke. Ivan is a twenty-two-year-old competitive chess player. He has always seen himself as socially awkward, a loner, the antithesis of his glib elder brother. Now, in the early weeks of his bereavement, Ivan meets Margaret.

Worth it
Revisado: 03-29-25
My first Sally Rooney book and I feel that I’ve read something special, something elevated. Her writing is gritty and stark, while also being beautiful, intimate, and something akin to tender. She skillfully makes her characters knowable. I almost put it down after the first 20 minutes, I’m so glad I didn’t. It’s masterfully written.

Historia
Woodrow Wilson Nickel, age 105, feels his life ebbing away. But when he learns giraffes are going extinct, he finds himself recalling the unforgettable experience he cannot take to his grave. It’s 1938. The Great Depression lingers. Hitler is threatening Europe, and world-weary Americans long for wonder. They find it in two giraffes who miraculously survive a hurricane while crossing the Atlantic. What follows is a twelve-day road trip in a custom truck to become Southern California’s first giraffes. Behind the wheel is the young Dust Bowl rowdy Woodrow.

Gets better at the end
Revisado: 09-20-23
It was charming, but I struggled to stay focused on the story. Maybe it was a bit boring; maybe it was the narrator's voice (sorry, Danny), or perhaps both. I didn't enjoy it until the last 90 minutes when the more meaningful parts were revealed. I'm glad I finished it, but it was painful, and I would have given up if it wasn't for book club.

What a ride!
Revisado: 11-15-21
This is an incredible story! I found myself saying "oh my God!" and "whaaattt?!?" throughout. It would be hard to take-in if it had not been told with such honesty, transparency and humor. The author lays his cards on the table. He's self-reflective and thoughtful, making this bizarre tale, very human. I'm pretty sure, you've never heard a true story like this one before!

Too much talking
Revisado: 05-11-20
Great effort but too much talking. It needs more silence and a slower pace to give me the chance to fall asleep. The breathing tempo was off as well and trying to follow it kept me awake. Voice and language were good, maybe others will find it more useful than I did.

Excellent.
Full of valuable information and told in a way that’s easy to listen to and take in (albeit heartbreaking). Not dense or obtuse, but rather, full and engaging. Brilliantly written and well read.

Historia
Ewan Cameron is a Vancouver-based journalist who has focused on exposing the lies and disinformation tactics of the pharmaceutical industry for more than a decade. A graduate of the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, he completed his journalism studies in the early 2000's before joining a local newspaper, where he became disillusioned by his editor’s refusal to publish health-related and pollution-related news stories. The reason? They would upset their corporate clients on which the newspaper depended for advertising revenue.

Excellent, empowering information!
Revisado: 01-03-19
This book takes a critical look at the medical industry and broadens your perspective if you allow it. You’re not going to get a simple solution to eczema or psoriasis (because there isn’t one) but you are going to be armed with a lot of information to create a healthy life and body from which eczema will not exist. This was 1000 times more helpful than my dermatologist. Even if you don’t have eczema, this book is packed with information on how to create a healthy, non-toxic internal and external environment from which you can thrive. This book eased my fears and gave me a sense of relief about my awful eczema by teaching me 1. my body is not attacking itself for no reason and 2. I can heal myself through diet and lifestyle changes without steroids or other toxic medications.
Others have said it’s a conspiracy theory but listen and decide for yourself. To me, everything in this book made sense and rang true. It puts your health in your own hands in a safe and natural way.
Is it a perfect book with no faults? No.
Will it arm you with powerful information you can’t find in the mainstream medical community? Definitely.
Am I glad I read it? Hell yes!
Do I recommend it? Absolutely, 100%
