Everyone with children should read this
Revisado: 02-11-20
Most children will have the experience of death. Whether grandparent or pet, death is something new to them and therefore a valid subject of study. Unfortunately, in our culture, that urge to investigate is stopped down hard. Children are curious creatures and have many questions about death that are far mor often met with Shhh! than with answers. This book takes real questions about death and answers them truthfully and understandably. Read this book and have a question time with your own kids. You might be surprised at how macabre they are!!

The audio, recorded live at the Minetta Lane Theatre, is a smorgasbord of genres, styles, and tales. Revisado: 12-29-19
Face it, Alan Cumming is a total genius. He can write, sing, dance, act, and do many other things. All with perfection, aplomb, and humour. Why doesn’t this man have all the Tonys?

Except that Afghan hounds are sight not scent hounds. Do your research, ladies!😉
Seriously, this book is anything but.
I laughed out loud at very inopportune times. (Are those earbuds or is she barking mad)
I’m buying their next book in the hope that they will make “Jane Eyre” as interesting as they have made Tudor history.

More mystery, less romance
Revisado: 08-19-19
A good, geeky mystery rendered boring by a pedestrian romance overlay. I skipped forward, which I have never done before.

Historia
Best-selling author Deborah E. Harkness explores the streets, shops, back alleys, and gardens of Elizabethan London, where a boisterous and diverse group of men and women shared a keen interest in the study of nature. These assorted merchants, gardeners, barber-surgeons, midwives, instrument makers, mathematics teachers, engineers, alchemists, and other experimenters, she contends, formed a patchwork scientific community whose practices set the stage for the Scientific Revolution.

A brilliant view of the origins of modern science
Revisado: 10-25-18
This is an original and deeply researched account of the origins of the scientific revolution in Elizabethan London. We hear the voices of the humbler sort who use science in their daily life, read about it, talk about it, and write about it. Those who think English science began with Francis Bacon are in for a big surprise.
And yes, the author has also written excellent historical fiction in the All Souls trilogy and others.

Awful, just awful
Revisado: 09-13-18
I downloaded this because I admire Tim Curry and thought that a story from him would be special. Honestly, I’m not to sure if the story is good or not. The terrible performance and production values overwhelmed the story.
The performer has an vocal mannerism in which every final ‘g’ has a ‘k’ added to it. This occurs in all his English accents. Mr. Adams mispronounces words way too frequently and, particularly toward the end, there are repetitions of phrases and sentences. It is like a phonograph record jumping the groove.
It is sad that one of the great voices of our time should be so ill-served in the reading of his work.

Two days before Christmas 1996, the broken, battered body of Sophie Toscan du Plantier was found outside her vacation home in West Cork, a serene region on Ireland’s idyllic southern coast. Decades later, no one has been charged with the murder, but the aggrieved inhabitants of West Cork are convinced they know who did it - and he still lives among them.

Enough already!
Revisado: 02-25-18
This is probably an interesting story however it is divided into 13 ‘chapters’ and each one has its own introduction and final credits. Now I give full props to the men and women who work to bring us our audiobooks and I think they should be acknowledged. Thirteen times in one story is excessive and annoying. IMHO, a very bad production decision.

Historia
For eons, conquering dungeons has been the most efficient way to become a strong adventurer. Although not everything is as straightforward as it seems. Revisado: 09-30-17
The narration is superb in this strange novel. It is apparently a novelization of a D and D type game from the point of view of the dungeon. Sadly, it captured all the tedium and exposition of the game while losing the excitement of actual play.

Historia
St. Louis in 1880 is full of ghosts - mangled soldiers, tortured slaves, the innocent victims of war - and Jacob Tracy can see them all. Ever since Antietam, when he lay delirious among the dead and dying, Trace has been haunted by the country's restless spirits. The curse cost him his family, his calling to the church, and damn near his sanity. He stays out of ghost-populated cities as much as possible these days, guiding wagon trains west with his pragmatic and skeptical partner, Boz.

Revisado: 07-07-16
Truly a breath of fresh air! Jacob Tracy is that special kind of protagonist that grabs your interest and all but forces you to care about him. These stories can be enjoyed as stand-alones or as in this episodic novel. I am anxiously awaiting further stories from Ms. Messinger.

Oh ick!
Revisado: 07-05-16
Firstly, this is a ROMANCE. If your favorite genre is mindless and sexless silly stories, this is for you! "Finding Sheba" bears as much resemblance to ancient history and modern archaeology as "Finding Dory" does to mental health issues and marine science. The bad guys belong to a group called "Ancient World Piracy". Really!! And the characters are interchangeable cardboard cutouts. A true waste of time and money.
