Fun with good pacing

fun without the "the government is gonna take over" tension that can be realistic but overwhelming. On the other hand, I kinda wish the government had a BIT OF A CLUE ... wait ... no i don't... nevermind... the story is great but I'm nervous about how the rest of the world will react/adapt. guess I'll just have to continue on with the series...

It went differently than I expected, and that was refreshing. I note, however. that I wasn't exactly a fan of any of the characters. but ... that, too, was refreshing.

The synopsis doesn't do the story justice

I was hesitant to experience this audiobook because the description just didn't make the book seem ... clever. However ... HOWEVER ... this was a lot of fun and QUITE clever. The FRIENDS annoyed me, at first ... but they grew on me. About to start Book 2...

The one unexplained sentence in The Blacktongue Thief now given meaning and life. An excellent companion story of an excellent story. Hard and sad and vivid and deep and meaningful... and violent: Biters need to be put down.

I was on the edge of my seat. That was FUN! VERY glad I downloaded and gave it a moment (which mostly was due to my just coming off of nearly 200 hours of another series and re-orienting my listening expectations was what took time). A+

I just wanted it to be over

Wholly unlikeable, passive aggressive characters that are heavy on being book smart and rubbing each other's noses in their belief in being better informed about life and the world, while simultaneously being light on wisdom. Worse, while the voice
characterizations of the people was good, the narration of the the thoughts, asides and action narration ranged from monotoned to mis-pronunciation with perfect diction that robbed even the bloodiest scenes of any emotional weight. I just wanted to be done with it. I didn't care which, if any, died ... I didn't care what revelations were made (because none had the real wisdom to see the damage they had or would do) ... and I didn't care whether or not they achieved their selfish, poorly reasoned goals. There must be at least one more book coming, but ... I just don't have the energy to care what happens to the characters because, well ... so many were unreasonably mean without self-reflection or ultimate consequence against their person for their part in the chaos, that I just couldn't root for any of them: sort of a passive-aggressive, African version of Game of Thrones, but with no Arya or Tyrion to bring clarity and strength. Listening to people not give their full reasoning for their position, having that lack of knowledge affect another's decision making, people unrepentant unless or until someone died for their misguided deeds... it's too frustrating to read as an escape from the frustrations of seeing real people be self-unaware. I hope others enjoy the third book, but ... I won't be one of them: i have no emotional connection to the characters and their lying, passive aggressive behavior as they trapse through overly describe flora and fauna. Meh.

lots of betrayals, fighting, intrigue, heroism and displays of great weakness... and I was on edge the entire time. you must read the other volumes first, if you want understand whim all the players actual are and their importance, but ... that just adds to the excellence.

So much fun and so needed

I'm a gamer ... I'm a EverQuest, World of Warcraft, Star Wars The Old Republic, Elven Ranger, Companion/Familiar having, immerse myself in a different world for a few hours, Giant-fighting, Griffon Riding, duel-wielding kind of gamer... I've learned some of the skills in real life and I totally enjoy the time I get to spend in those worlds when not doing the husband/daddy/lawyer/handyman/kid's taxi driver things that occupy most of my time ... this audio book was right up my ally and allowed me to be in my relaxation space when doing the non-relaxing stuff. Witty, thoughtful, nuanced ... magical, practical, political ... fun and angering ... all the things an adventure should be. PLUS ... it has an interface with which I am familiar. I just finished the book and am desperate for the next. Thank you for writing this story with characters that react the way they are SUPPOSED to react, saying the things that should be said with the consequences that should result therefrom ... and for using leeches...
