Historia
Summoned to an abandoned theme park to retrieve a body, Dr. Kay Scarpetta is devastated to learn that the victim is a man she once had an intense love affair with. The murder scene is bizarre, with a crop circle of petals around the body, and Giordano’s skin is strangely red. Scarpetta’s niece Lucy believes he was dropped from an unidentified flying craft. Scarpetta knows an autopsy can reveal the dead’s secrets, but she is shocked to find her friend seems to have deliberately left her a clue.

Really Enjoyed This Book!
Revisado: 12-17-24
I've read all the Kay Scarpetta books & started because the first woman to become Chief Medical Examiner of VA was someone in my Microbiology class. She was brilliant, as is Dr Scarpetta. The mystery kept me guessing while the science, real or imagined, was fascinating. The book was different, going back to earlier in Dr Scarpetta's life, touching on national security issues & looking forward to further knowledge made possible through deep space research. It felt so fresh, up to date, & well researched.

This is one of my favorite books & I loved listening to it. I found the main character to be fascinating & to have depth. It set me on a path to reading DK Hood's series with this character & buying his Audible books.

Historia
The alumni of an international boarding school have gathered at a campground in rural New Jersey when a scream breaks the silence of the woods. Classmates are shocked to find journalist Angie Osborne suddenly dead. The medical examiner’s report isn’t what anyone expects. Oddly, the death scene reminds anthropologist Duncan McCloud of a thovile, a Sri Lankan ritual he’s spent years studying.

The Mask Collectors
Revisado: 09-01-23
An unusual book & maybe a first chapter explaining something about the folk of Senegal might have helped. Either the translator didn't translate everything or s/he wasn't fluent in English. I kept having the feeling that something was lacking in the narrative. It seemed as if this was not the author's first book. Maybe it was the first book that that was translated & recorded for Audible. An Editor was needed. The Narrator was inconsistent in sounding as if someone was from Senegal. Is French a major language there? Obviously the author knew about masks & what they represented but it was unclear if anyone was still using them in Senegal. Perhaps there was an editor who cut things out but something made those necessary for Americans to understand. Overall it was okay & at any number of times I was engrossed but it just felt choppy. Made me wonder when the book was written.

Hmmm? What’s Going On Here?
Revisado: 09-13-21
I found this book to be a wonderful read. I’ve enjoyed all the books in this series but this one really tugged at my heart strings. There were also a number of surprises as the mystery unfolded. I won’t give anything away because I so liked the twists & turnover that moved the story in. Both author & narrator were excellent.

Falling is a first Novel
Revisado: 08-03-21
I accidentally gave this novel 5
Stars when It really was actually a 3. There were very interesting in parts. I think the author needed a much better editor. Some of the story was like a 1990 novel. Some parts were just fine. I liked a female who was ve not a book . A serious reader might want to something else. With a little more editorial help. Keep writing & get a good editor.

Historia
Ever have one of those days where life just plain sucks? Welcome to my last three months - ever since I caught my can’t-be-soon-enough-ex-husband cheating with his paralegal. I’m 35 years old, and I’ve lost my NYC apartment, my job, my money, and frankly, my dignity. But the final heartache in the suck sandwich of my life? My great-aunt Maggie died. The only family member who’s ever gotten me. Even after death, though, she’s helping me get back up again. Too bad that bravado only lasts as long as it takes to drive into Huckleberry Hills. And see the house.

Such a Nice Surprise
Revisado: 08-02-21
Thank you to Audible Plus for sharing this book for free. I could hardly stop listening to go to sleep.Listened to it in 24 hours. It is funny, touching, & romantic. The reader did a great job as did the authors. I enjoyed this book so much & it lifted my spirits. I had some parallels to the main character in my life & my life did not end as hers did. This book reminds one of the decisions made in life & taking responsibility for those decisions. Changing the decisions one makes can bring the happiness we all deserve. I loved it. 🥰

Admittedly, there's a touch of black humor in the case. Rich, old practical joker Andrew Trent summons his kin to the remote Arrat House in the dead of winter for a deathbed farewell. They arrive to find him in perfect health and eager to torment them with a new bag of unfunny jokes.

Disappointed
Revisado: 05-19-21
I was disappointed in this book because I was half way
In when the usual main characters appeared. The characters in the first half were necessary for the plot but were pretty obnoxious & that part felt discouraging to me; I almost stopped listening. Shortly thereafter Hamish
MacBeth arrived, responding to a sudden death. At this point the investigation started

Really liked the main character
Revisado: 01-21-21
This was a very cozy mystery &
I felt good after reading it. Main character not perfect but I enjoyed the way she loved her dog & her shop. Listening to the author’s words through the narrator was delightful. It was an easy read that left me feeling uplifted (not a religious story) & happy. A good feeling while sheltering in place for 10 months, removing my attention away from my worries about the devastation of Covid-19.

Loved It
Revisado: 10-05-20
I really like this series & somehow fell behind. So this weekend I did a marathon listen to the last 3 books. With what went on in book 4 I'm glad I had book 5 to read immediately. There were times the conversation went a bit fast & I found it hard to understand what I was hearing. I didn't think to slow down the speech, but I did listen several times. I enjoyed this book so much & found it uplifting about Tony & Kate's Christmas present to a family & a surprise diagnosis. Can't wait for Book 6.

Really Enjoyed Listening
Revisado: 04-04-20
I really enjoyed listening to this book. I reread the Agatha Christie book "Murder on the Orient Express" & looked up & read about Agatha Christie. The author did a wonderful job of weaving truth & fiction together. It was a very nice story that kept my attention . So much was not as it seemed that made for some nice surprises, at least for me. I would definitely read another book by Ms Ashford.😊
