AI ruined it
Revisado: 04-09-25
I think the writing was good. It’s hard to say bc the AI made getting through this almost unbearable and that is not the writer’s fault.
Writers put a lot into writing and having AI read the work is just not doing the writer or the work itself Justice. AI doesn’t get jokes, inflection, or emotions.
I know that AI save the production company money, but if AI takes over more and more reading, people are going to stop subscribing, or buying the audiobooks read by AI and thus, costing the company more than what AI saved.
Let’s just say we have AI a chance, it fell flat, and lesson learned, no more AI narrations. 🤔

Revisado: 02-05-25
I have listen to all the books so far and this one has to be my favorite. I just love Annette’s character and her quirky personality.
I also think Darinda Jones is a fantastic writer. All of her books are fun. I am not sure why so many are included in my membership, but I know I am so so so glad they are. She’s quickly become on of my go to authors.
I also am a big fan of the narrator. I have listen to a lot of books read by her after just doing a search for her name. I find her style of reading fun, and her voice very relaxing.

Absolutely loved
Revisado: 01-21-25
I saw this and I have listened to several of her other books and really enjoyed them. Plus I really enjoy reader. So I thought I would give this a try. I listen to the entire book in one day and had the next one downloaded and ready to go before the this on ended. The characters are so likable and dynamic. Divorces suck, grannies pass, so many of us are adopted and some even have two moms or two dads. This book melts love, heart ache, mid life all together in a rich candy coated story.

Historia
What won't we try in our quest for perfect health, beauty, and the fountain of youth? Well, just imagine a time when doctors prescribed morphine for crying infants. When liquefied gold was touted as immortality in a glass. And when strychnine - yes, that strychnine, the one used in rat poison - was dosed like Viagra. Looking back with fascination, horror, and not a little dash of dark, knowing humor, Quackery recounts the lively, at times unbelievable, history of medical misfires and malpractices.

I love the characters. This far into the series you feel like you know the whole little town. Danny and Lily remind me of my Best Friends. Walt is endlessly fascinated by the “new” world and has trouble getting used to “the loose morals” of today.

Historia
Teacher Misery perfectly encapsulates the comical misery that has become the teaching profession. Jane Morris's strange, funny, and sometimes unbelievable teaching experiences are told through a collection of short stories, essays, and artifacts including real emails from parents, students, and administrators. From the parents who blame their son's act of arson on the teacher for causing him low self-esteem to the student who offers to teach the teacher how to sell drugs so she can pay her bills, one story is more shocking than the next.

This is real
Revisado: 08-17-23
As a former teacher, I am listening and laughing at the absurdity of the different events and challenges teacher face. Some, non teachers, will say these can’t be real. But I can assure you, they are well with in the realm of possibility. When I taught middle school. These was a school map in the teachers lounge with pens stuck around. This was to indicate to teachers where to look if/when they passed by because these were hot spot for sexual activity. I have been asked/told to change grades so students would pass. I do want you to realize that in the part of the book where she is talking about essay questions in the PARC test, she could not only loose her job but also be prosecuted for divulging any details about a test either current or past. We are strictly forbidden to discuss any question we see on the tests with students, other teachers, or even a friend. Sample tests are made and those and only those questions can be referred to when “practicing” for the test. Also, practicing for the test begins about 6 weeks prior to the test. Drills, practice, drills, and more ABCD practice. A teachers value is based on the one day a student takes the test. Teachers are very limited on what they can say to students during the test, so when we see Bob and Angie marking randomly because they don’t care, and there no consequences for the student, all we can say “slow down and take your time.” That’s it. And if we get rehired, but on a support plan, pay, and promotional opportunities depend on these tests. It’s is crazy and is the reality of the teacher who makes enough to stay right above the poverty line, gets little to no support for administration and parents, is bullied and threatened. Post-CoVid has brought us into the reality of a major teacher shortage nation wide. Schools were pressured to open so that the nation had a place to drop their children. Teachers were not considered important enough to say “no” in order to protect them. They are not nurses or doctors and forced to be in a classroom with 30+ coughing, sneezing, nose picking kids and told Lysol was good enough and wear a mask. Our nation needs a huge wake up call when it comes to our education and I am so happy Mrs. Morris spoke out about it.

They killed me. They healed me. They changed me. Sure, the life of a graduate student wasn't exactly glamorous, but it was mine. I was doing fine until Chicago's vampires announced their existence to the world---and then a rogue vampire attacked me. But he only got a sip before he was scared away by another bloodsucker...and this one decided that the best way to save my life was to make me the walking undead.

Love the book , not so much the reader
Revisado: 06-07-23
I really didn’t like the narrator’s attempt at character voices. Ethan is supposed to be the steaming hot piece of Vampire heaven but is given a voice of of a want to be pompous show man. The voice just didn’t match. A different reader would have made all the difference. Still going to get book 2.

Historia
With my life back to normal - normal being a very relative word - one would think I’d catch a break. One would be very wrong. With an angel gunning for me and a demon in my bed, life couldn’t be more complicated. Not to mention, I’m going to have to make a rather large life choice. Do I want to live forever? Does anyone? Forever is a very long time. Whatever. I’ll think about it tomorrow...or next week...or next month. As long as I have my girlfriends, my dogs, a super-sized case of merlot, and my deceased squatters, I’m good to go.

Copy, paste
Revisado: 03-31-23
I love the narrator. She brings the story to life. The ONLY issue I have is the “copy/paste” feeling I get when she describes her soul diving. It wouldn’t be so noticeable if the event didn’t happen so often. “The cold… every cell cried for oxygen… I didn’t like the feeling but I had grown accustomed to it. It’s how I knew it’s where I should be.” Over and over. Copy and paste.
Love the Gram character and Karma. Also the funny trivia thrown in and I looked it up, it all mostly correct. The jelly bean is shiny from a bug’s secretion not excretion. So more like sweat then poop. Still gross to know.

Historia
Thirty-nine was a fantastic year. I was married to the man I loved. I had a body that worked without creaking. My grandma, who raised me, was still healthy, and life was pretty damned good. But as they say, all good things come to an end. One year later, I’m a widow. My joints are starting to ache. Gram is in the nursing home, and dead people think my home is some kind of supernatural bed-and-breakfast. Gluing body parts onto semi-transparent people has become a side job - deceased people I’m not even sure are actually there.
