I don’t know if it was all copies. But for whatever reason there were so many skips and jumps in the audio that it was nearly unlistenable. Tech support here was non existent

But of all the SK I have read/listened to this was my least favorite. And I’m well into the double digits.

Sounded like an adolescent girls rambling writing.

Reminds me of the poetry written by a teenage girl in Hitch Hikers Guide To The Galaxy that was worse in the galaxy.

Only Slightly worse.

The story was good. Not as good as previous entries of the Pendergast series but still better than other books out there. However….

The narration. It was painful. When the reader was in his narrator voice it was passable. But when it came to characters. It was just grating. The portrayal of the residents of Savanah sounded like a mix of Foghorn Leghorn meets a caricature of a southern accent that could be considered offensive if a few choice words were added in.

Now I know Rene Auberjonois passed but after years of reading the books I revisited them on Audible he became Pendergast to me.

The narrator who performed Crooked River, I forget his name, did such a better job than this one.

I really REALLY did. I love Eric Carr. He’s the reason I first picked up a pair of drumsticks. But the reading of the book.. I can’t put it into words how horrible it is. The inflection. The random pauses that would make William Shatner say “what.. the……. Hell was that!?”

I barely made it half way before I had to tap out.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Overall yes I would but the performance is HORRIBLE. Painfully bad that I had to stop listening to it several times just to clear my head.

Would you be willing to try another one of January LaVoy’s performances?

I don't think I could listen to another of her performances. Knowing myself I will, maybe this one just isn't up to par with others. But the reader takes on a tone that gives the impression that she is reading to a 10 year old at all times. And there is next no difference in character voices. How I miss Mark Thompson's performances.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

The production was horrible. There were points where you can tell they stopped and restarted. Possibly in new rooms, with new microphones. It would get louder or softer. And the butchery of the Spanish language was horrid

What was most disappointing about T. J. English’s story?

The fact that he portrays Castro as a hero.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Mel Foster?

Anyone but him. It was seriously painful to listen to him butcher the Spanish language.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Havana Nocturne?

All of it. The only reason I finished the book is because I had nothing else to listen to and was out of credits.

Any additional comments?

God awful book. The only reason I don't feel it was a total waste was because I bought it on one of those buy one get one free sales.
