Historia
When solitary marine biologist Doc Ford focused his telescope on the woman in the white boat, he didn't know his life was about to be capsized: that his conniving uncle, Tucker Gatrell, would discover the Fountain of Youth, that the National Enquirer would write about it, and that the law would beat down his door in search of three missing men. But Doc Ford is about to find these things out - the hard way. Because in the shadowy world of Southwest Florida, mysteries great and small have found the man to solve them.

Droning thus over all boring. Voice of reader irritating. Rambling story with no central theme.

Can't finish it. Horrible
Revisado: 06-22-24
Lots of detailed blather about weapon nomenclature, prior book actions repeated again and again, a relationship with a computer and the list goes on. Carr's early books were realistic, mostly and readable. This one is a bad story, heaped with emotional tripe. About the only thing realistic is the contemparary setting.

Historia
Alan Furst's latest novel takes place in the secret hotels, nightclubs, and cafes of occupied Paris and the villages of France during the spring of 1941, when Britain was losing the war. Many of the characters are resistance fighters who run an escape line for British airmen down to Spain; they include men and women, old and young, all strong - an aristocrat, a Jewish teacher - and the hero is a hero, has a gun, and uses it.

Awful reader

A good story is diminished by the reader who is artificial and uses voice inflection poorly.

May 1941. At four in the morning, a rust-streaked tramp freighter streams up the Tagus River to dock at the port of Lisbon. She is the Santa Rosa; she flies the flag of neutral Spain and is in Lisbon to load cork oak, tinned sardines, and drums of cooking oil bound for the Baltic port of Malmo. Only she is not the Santa Rosa, she is the Noordendam, a Dutch freighter that sails for the Intelligence Division of the British Royal Navy....

Excellent story. Great reader
Revisado: 03-29-24
One of Furst’s best but then he is always outstanding. Word usage is outstanding. Too bad there aren’t many authors in his league.

I’ve read nearly all of his books. This one kept me glued for nearly the entire reading. Action, heartbreak and reality. The author represents what I wish the military was today.

The reader's voice just about kills the book
Revisado: 04-17-23
The high pitched whiny drawl of the reader eventually stopped me in my tracks. I stopped listening with 12 hours to go. Like fingernails on a chalk board. Too bad because it's not a bad story.

On the snow-covered slopes of Utah, the unthinkable has just become a nightmarish reality: thirty Secret Service agents have been viciously executed and the vacationing president of the United States kidnapped by one of the most lethal terrorist organizations in the Middle East - the Fatah Revolutionary Council. But surviving agent and ex-Navy SEAL Scot Harvath doesn't believe the Fatah Revolutionary Council is responsible for the attack.

Just awful

The book sounds like it was written for and read to a teenage audience. Especially agonizing is the dialogue between the Secret Service members. I actually may not be able to finish this.

Historia
Walt thinks he might find the answers he's looking for among the ruins of an old Native American boarding school—an institution designed to strip Native children of their heritage. He has been haunted by the image of the Fort Pratt Industrial Indian Training School ever since he first saw a faded postcard picturing a hundred boys in uniform, in front of a large, ominous building—a postcard that was given to him by Jimmy Lane, the father of Jeanie One Moon.

Weirdest book I’ve ever read
Revisado: 09-13-22
As usual Guidall was excellent. Absent him I would have closed the book. The out of reality experiences of Longmire didn’t make sense. I’ve read every one of Johnson’s books. I can only hope he doesn’t write anything like this one again.
