If you're like me, you probably watched the movie version of this and wanted to check out the book. As great as the movie is, this is better in many aspects.

First, the book is very well-written. In fact, the movie takes much of the wording and pace from the book. The book expands on things the movie did not go into, however, adding details to things like the aftermath of Jesse James death and what happened to his assassins. It wasn't nearly as cut-and-dry as the movie made it appear to be.

Second, there's items the movie exaggerated or changed, and the book gets right. The reason for specific feuds, the feel of certain events; it does an amazing job with those.

Theres more too, but you get the gist.

The narrator is great. The book flies by.

I'd read the manga and seen the anime, so I figured I'd check out this first book. It was much, much better than I expected.

The story in novel form works so well, and the story is surprisingly well-written.

My only complaint are the sound effects the narrator makes - which are kind of absurd. Stomp, stomp, stomp!
Heavy breathing!
Screams!
They break the story at times and sound ridiculous.

Despite that, the narrator still sounds great and the story overcomes this silliness.

A GREAT start.

Attwood's Finale to the BEST Pablo Escobar series.

This is the final book in Attwood's 3-part Escobar series. He mentions a Part 4 that woukd take place after Escobar's death, but it hasnt been written - yet. Make sure to listen to all the books in order.

As far as the series is concerned, this is the most comprehensive Paublo Escobar reporting to ever exist. It's part of a 3 volume series, and it goes WELL beyond the standard narco tales to paint an exhaustive picture of both a complex person and time. It does this by not simply relying on Western "authorities" on the matter, but rather by looking at reports from the people that were there, that knew Escobar, and from other sources available as well.

I say that having previously read dozens of books on the subject, this author's prior book included. The major flaw in most of those is that they aren't thorough enough, that they have agenda, or that they want to be pro or anti the person. This series tries more to paint a picture of who Escobar was, what he did and it's impact both pro and con, as well as the brutal responses from both Cali and the Columbian/ US governments. There's a lot of items that haven't appeared elsewhere too, detailing kidnappings, bombings, and more.

Theres one complaint you'll see in the reviews, noting that the book includes advertisement for other books. Essentially, you have around 38min in each book dedicated to that, it's at the end of the book, and it's easily skipped. I wouldn't even note this but I almost didn't buy a book because it was all I saw, and I don't really see the issue.

A 45 HOUR masterpiece

Revisado: 03-21-23

It is one of the few books I can listen to for almost 45 hours and then want to hear again, due to just how good it is.

Most people are familiar with the coming-of-age meets monster plot by now, so I want to add something (with minimal spoilers). That's about the ending - not the details but the idea that King cannot write a good ending.

This idea come from the movies and TV series, where you have the story about the kids and the adults separated. That diminishes the story, because the book runs from the adult beginnings to understanding what happened before and now at the end of the book. The way its told in the book does so much more.

There's also the characters and them coming to life in print, versus the outlines many know. The bullies, for example, are more than bullies here. Theyre detailed. Frightening. And they explain so much about Derry and It. Take Patrick H. - in movies he's a footnote but in the book he's monstrous and terrifying and also interesting. Their deaths are so much more too. The same thing with Belch and other people that remained nameless on the screen - they come alive in print.

The entire book is like that. You will know parts of it but see a LOT of new material. Items change. Pennywise will have more detail. Chudd will make much more sense. The clubhouse will be added in detail. And that ending is so much more.

I liked the narrator here too. It's a solid listen.

Amazing story and performance BUT it's NOT TRUE

The story of the Iceman is indeed an amazing story, and it's captivating. The performance is a great one too, making a book that is a solid listen.

The only problem here is that it isn't true.

Sure, there's SOME truth to it. The "Iceman" was a monster. He hurt random people and those closest to him as well, even brutalizing his wife to the point that he graphically caused his unborn child to die. He also got into street crime and some Murders.

His claims though, that he was a mafia hit man involved in some of the most notorious crimes reported is a farce. Some of that is disproven by his own story. some by law enforcement. and some by criminals that were involved in what actually transpired. The people that wrote this took his word on everything. they didn't factcheck. And it shows.

So you get a memorable tale. One I would listen to again to he honest. But it's fake - despite what we're told about it.

Out of the Dune books, this is one of my favorites. Leto II is one of the most fascinating characters in science fiction.
