Just started listening but I don't think I can finish. The reader is distracting. He's pretty bad at voices. Might return

The narration ruined this one for me. The French accents were painfully cringy. Liz is a mature, intelligent pro but the narrator used a high girlish voice that didn't fit the character.

Fun story but the narration is agony. The Irish protagonist, and hero, sounds like a demented leprechaun with a mouthful of drano and marbles. The 3 idiot financial guys are from Ohio but talk with ridiculous new jersey gangster accents. I love the Bunny McGarry character but the narrator ruined it for me. Need to read all of McDonnell books in book form. Darn

Returned because of the narrator. Painful to listen to, breathy and childish, sounds nothing like a soigne Parisian teen.

After reading twice, the six books in this superb series, narrated by the peerless Gerard Doyle, I feel such affection and intimacy with the characters. A cast of beautifully realized individuals with distinct voices and personalities. The plots are quirky, original and unexpected. Loved every single one

I was so looking forward to revisiting these characters. I hope Harkness writes back stories for other characters in the original series. This book was a little frustrating, spending too much time on mundane and sometimes disgusting, details. Marcus is the least interesting vampire in the books, being the youngest and most naive of Matthew's children. It would be more interesting to learn about Miriam, Freya, Gallowglass or Isabeau. The dialogue for the twins made them sound like monosyllabic idiots. Toddlers no not talk like that.
And I really will not understand if Diana chooses to remain mortal.
Eagerly looking forward to the next book, which I will buy the second it becomes available. I still love this world

I swear - if he says "aching stump" one more time.... Strike is the most disappointing "hero" ever. He can't walk or run, he can't follow suspects. And his partner, Robin, is so clueless, it's amazing she can detect her way to the office every day. I lost patience for her emotionally abusive marriage. The only interesting character in the story is Strike's ex, Charlotte. The narrator needed a bag of Hall's throat lozenges. His voice was so raspy and gravelly, I wanted him to cough or take a drink of warm tea. I don't know if I have the patience to even finish listening to this one.

Too much religion

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The religious debate took up most of the narrative and got so repetitive and boring. Enough already, move along with a story. Any story - just not more bible study. I'm sure there was something else happening during her reign as queen. The naval battle and the day of the sinking of the Mary Rose was vividly brought to life - horrifying. The book opened with surprisingly graphic sex which is not a problem except I was listening with my mother in the car, so be careful who is around for the opening chapters. Would have liked more of Katherine's life at court instead of endless religious discussion.

Katherine's nightmare was repeated so often I could recite it along with the book.

Could you see The Taming of the Queen being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Sure, if the screen writers take out everything. Cate Blanchette always does a good queen. Russell Crowe in tons of padding could be Henry.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

No, the first two chapters were hilarious as she describes Manhattan in anthropological terms. But then you begin to wonder, why the hell does she want to live there? The original themes are repeated in every chapter and one loses interest and patience

Has Primates of Park Avenue turned you off from other books in this genre?

No

Would you listen to another book narrated by Madeleine Maby?

maybe. Her emphasis on certain words became so annoying it was hard to keep listening

What else would you have wanted to know about Wednesday Martin’s life?

not really, it seems like the details have been thoroughly raked over on the interwebs and media
