Historia
Conflict is a natural part of any intimate relationship. Yet most couples either avoid it or try to smooth over their differences. This often results in at least one partner compromising their integrity—and stunting their own growth. Monsters in Love challenges the idea that conflict between partners is unhealthy or something to avoid. Instead, it encourages both people to stand by what they need and who they are—but to do so with compassion rather than competitiveness or vengefulness.

Embrace the heat!
Revisado: 02-24-25
“The things that create conflict for you and your lover are the very things the two of you need to lean into, because they’re tied to your integrity. Your conflict needs to cook—and you can’t cook without heat.”
This quote here sums up this very informative book of how to deal with your partner; most times we overlook and avoid the difficult parts. Dr. Resmaa Menakem gives practical solutions-along with actual cases-of how to enjoy the “monster” that you are in love with, part of which is identifying your own monster! A great read!

Revisado: 01-30-24
The story is mediocre at best. Seemed like half the book was a recap of the 1st book. I guess that’s good if you hadn’t read the 1st book but otherwise it’s annoying.

I really wanted to love this book, as a fellow muslim, wanting to support my muslim sister. However, the story was dry. I zoned out several times. If that happens, I usually rewind so I dont miss anything but I didnt find that necessary here.
The virtual voice is not the best option. It doesnt know how to pronpunce certain words and thats annoying.

In her trademark "tell-it-like-it-is" style comes a bold new book from relationship coach Suzanne Venker, who blames feminists for destroying the relationship between the sexes by insisting men and women become "equal", as in the same. Suzanne and her coauthor John M. Townsend, PhD, free women from the equality meme and embolden them to embrace the way men and women are naturally wired.

Hella gems and jewels!
Revisado: 07-27-23
If women really do want to win at love, then this book should be part of the game plan. There are so many wisdoms in this book, and women just need to take a moment to listen to (or read) them, and put a lot of the modern conditioning that they’ve received about love and relationships on hold for a minute, and consider getting back to the old fashioned model of feminine energy that excites and motivates a man. Men need to listen to this too…as a man and husband, I approve this message!

Historia
Solitary is the unforgettable life story of a man who served more than four decades in solitary confinement - in a six-foot by nine-foot cell, 23 hours a day, in notorious Angola prison in Louisiana - all for a crime he did not commit. That Albert Woodfox survived was, in itself, a feat of extraordinary endurance against the violence and deprivation he faced daily. That he was able to emerge whole from his odyssey within America’s prison and judicial systems is a triumph of the human spirit, and makes his book a clarion call to reform the inhumanity of solitary confinement....

Revisado: 05-23-23
“For 44 years I defied the State of Louisiana and the Department of Corrections. Their main objective was to break my spirit. They did not break me. I have witnessed the horrors of man’s cruelty to man. I did not lose my humanity. I bear the scare of beatings, loneliness, isolation, and persecution. I am also marked by every kindness.”

Historia
Over the last 220 years, society has evolved a universal belief that electricity is "safe" for humanity and the planet. Scientist and journalist Arthur Firstenberg disrupts this conviction by telling the story of electricity in a way it has never been told before - from an environmental point of view - by detailing the effects that this fundamental societal building block has had on our health and our planet.

The writing has been on the wall!
Revisado: 02-07-23
This was a very informative book, highlighting the biggest threat to us as society: electricity! An excerpt from the book:
“Like the proverbial boiled frog, we are all immersed in a giant pot of radiation, whose intensity is increasing, and whose effect, though unperceived, is nevertheless certain.”
The price to pay for all of this advancement in technology is our lives. Lord help us!

One morning, a man wakes up to find himself transformed. Overnight, Anders’s skin has turned dark, and the reflection in the mirror seems a stranger to him. At first he shares his secret only with Oona, an old friend turned new lover. Soon, reports of similar events begin to surface. Across the land, people are awakening in new incarnations, uncertain how their neighbors, friends, and family will greet them. As the bond between Anders and Oona deepens, change takes on a different shading: a chance at a kind of rebirth—an opportunity to see ourselves, face to face, anew.

I liked the twist that put on this story, a very subtle way to deal with the issue of race and racism. I don't want to blow it, but all I can say is, the last White is not the last White man!

Historia
The New York Times Magazine’s award-winning “1619 Project” issue reframed our understanding of American history by placing slavery and its continuing legacy at the center of our national narrative. This new book substantially expands on that work, weaving together 18 essays that explore the legacy of slavery in present-day America with 36 poems and works of fiction that illuminate key moments of oppression, struggle, and resistance.

An excellent, excellent, excellent (and must) read
Revisado: 08-18-22
This book has highlighted so many things that have been wrong with this country as a result of White supremacy in the form of chattel slavery, and then every thing at the disposal of the adherents of that ideology has been used to keep Black people down. Furthermore, the ONE thing that could begin to help offset the wrongs-reparations-is precisely the one thing that America refuses to do, and as such, there will always be two Americas: the one that exists where the racial divide is as wide as it ever was, and the one that we as a nation (or they as a race) continue to be delusional about building. An excerpt from the book:
"Saying that the nation can progress racially is a necessary statement of hope. Saying that the nation has progressed racially is usually a statement of ideology, one that has been used all too often to obscure the opposite reality of racist progress. And it’s been this way since the beginning."
