I've listened to many of Ms Bowens books. This one included one of the most fascinating programs of WWII- Betchley - where they solved the enigma code. Great historical fiction.

True to the story of the Irish troubles during the 80s from the Ulster police men's point of view. The narration was superb, British, Scottish, Irish and dialects of each were flawless. Sean Duffey is a great character.

Simon Serrailler has just wrapped up a difficult case for SIFT--Special Incident Flying Taskforce--and is on a sabbatical on a far-flung Scottish island when he is called back to Lafferton. Two local prostitutes have gone missing and are subsequently found strangled. By the time he gets back, another girl has disappeared. Is this a vendetta against prostitutes by someone with a warped mind? Or a series of killings by an angry punter?

Excellent narration brought the story to life
Revisado: 01-06-15
Is it possible to be rooting for young girls who turn to prostitution? These young women are developed into real people with lives and struggles like all of us. I wanted them to be safe from the killer who was stalking them on the streets. The story is a satisfying listen from start to finish. The narrator is excellent especially as the killer is revealed through a few fateful words. I will be looking for another Susan Hill book with the same narrator.

Historia
In the early 1930s, Nancy Wake was a young woman enjoying a bohemian life in Paris. By the end of the Second World War, she was the Gestapo's most wanted person. As a naive, young journalist, Nancy Wake witnessed a horrific scene of Nazi violence in a Viennese street. From that moment, she declared that she would do everything in her power to rid Europe of the Nazis. What began as a courier job here and there became a highly successful escape network for Allied soldiers.

A great story of courage, inspiring for any age!
Revisado: 03-11-13
Where does Nancy Wake rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
My husband and I brought this book along on our 1000 mile trip with my 87 year old parents. We couldn't wait to get on the road after our rest stops to find out what happens to Nancy. The story was truly inspirational, the reader was easy to understand and her accents and characters were spot on. There aren't many books that I can listen to that interest my husband (a history buff) and my parents (the WWII generation). This was great. This book is in my top 10 list.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Nancy Wake?
The solo bike ride through Nazi-held country was a physical and mental ordeal. I can't think of many people who could have accomplished this.
What about Stephanie Daniel’s performance did you like?
Her voice is clear and her style fit the atmosphere of the book, from funny moments to the ordeals of warfare - equally wonderful.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Nancy Wake's life was amazing full of life and death and every emotion in between.
Any additional comments?
Don't miss this amazing story. I did some research while we were listening to this book which added to our admiration of this woman and all those who struggled against the Nazis.

This reader is amazing!
Revisado: 01-15-13
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This book is a wonderful mystery as well as a look into the hard times of Irish society. Broken Harbor is a housing development gone bust...but also the people are broken in many ways. The reader shifts from character to character in a very believable voice. The pace never slows down and I return to the book with anticipation every time.
What about Stephen Hogan’s performance did you like?
I love the reader's voice, inflections, and interpretation of the characters. Absolutely amazing.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
An atmospheric who-done it with two interesting detectives - as entertaining as Inspector Lewis and and Sargent Hathaway, Holmes and Watson.
Any additional comments?
I will look for more books by this narrator. I love Tana French as well.

Maybe a great book, hard to follow the narrative
Revisado: 12-11-12
What did you love best about Wolf Hall?
I always love to read about the intrigue of the British monarchy but this is too hard to follow.
Would you recommend Wolf Hall to your friends? Why or why not?
My husband is reading this book on his IPad and I am listening to it on my IPad. We both find it hard to follow because the different characters are not easily identified when they are speaking - more the style of writing than the fault of the reader.
Have you listened to any of Simon Slater’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No
