Both the writing style and the narrator combined to form a protagonist that I just could not like. She was disdainful of any and every parson or preacher throughput the book. She was supercilious and thoughtless in many regards, big and small. I was constantly groaning over her remarks and thoughtless actions. I do commend the author for her research, however. I came away with a greater appreciation of Abigail and John Adams.

We hear so little about women in the revolutionary war. This is a fabulous tale, and full of the rich detail of the life of the time. Mostly the endless uncertainty of who you really can trust in war time. Highly recommended.

This book is a fun read. Books that fictionalize history are humorless, not this one.

I enjoyed this book having read very few novels set in this time period. It was interesting learning of the day-to-day life of women during this period in our history. They were tough ladies; I’m not sure I could have survived as well as they. The author was able to bring this story to life. I’ve not done any research to verify if the plot was actually conceived and executed but it certainly seemed reasonable and possible. I will be reading the sequels. #Suspense #tagsgiving #sweepstakes

I've often read reviews were people said they could not stop listening or put down the book. This was my situation and the story. You become the hero like midwife during the revolutionary war. In the reading, the narrator has a beautiful place and English accent. I found that I now want to speak as she did. Loved this book.

Amazing and heartwarming. I could not put it down and when I had to I continue to think about the characters.

This book was slow to start but the writing and language were so engaging that I stuck with it and boy, am I glad I did! Great characters, story, and period language. Wished for a little more description and focus on the "romantic" scenes but what was given is good enough. Great listen too. Narration, I thought, was engaging and read well while giving each character its own personality and life. Great Job!
