Historia
Investigating a crime seemingly unconnected to the Royal Family, Holmes & Watson uncover a conspiracy to kidnap Queen Victoria and destabilise the British Empire. With a ticking clock to her next public engagement, Holmes and Watson must discover who is behind the plot and locate her majesty, while Mycroft tries to keep the monarch’s disappearance a secret from the British people. At first, Holmes believes Moriarty is responsible for the abduction, but when the Napoleon of Crime is proved innocent, Holmes must work with his arch-nemesis to rescue the Queen.

Tedious and unconvincing

There is absolutely nothing Sherlockian about this. It sounds as if it were written by 14-year-olds who watched a bad Holmes movie and decided to write another.

The last two were just tedious
Revisado: 09-02-24
I've enjoyed all of the books in this series until these. The narration has always been a little amateurish, but the plots have been clever enough to keep me buying the next one. I'm not sure I'll keep going, because in the last two I kept waiting for something interesting or unexpected to happen, and nothing of either kind did. Too bad. I really like the dog.

Historia
When a heat wave hits northern Michigan, Minnie, Eddie, and their bookmobile head to the beach to catch some rays and some customers. But library business is put on hold when Minnie's restaurant-owning best friend, Kristen, calls. The specialty ice cream cone treat she'd been serving to patrons was sabotaged, making some customers horribly sick. Kristen needs Minnie to sniff out the culprit fast, or the restaurant's reputation will be destroyed forever.

A perfect example of the idiot plot.
Revisado: 08-11-24
First of all the narrator's performance was very much up to her usual standard of excellence. As to the stories, I've mostly enjoyed the series up until now, but this one in particular was just tedious. One would think that if the heroine were smart enough to figure out the mystery, she'd be too smart to get into such predictable trouble at the end. I may listen to the next book, but if it's no better than this one I think I'm done with them.

Life is too short
Revisado: 04-22-24
Maybe it's unreasonable, but I sort of expect books labeled as thrillers to be -- well, thrilling. After listening to a couple of hours of the first volume, the only adjective that comes to mind is tedious. The plot is formulaic, the writing merely adequate. I suspect the narrator is pretty good when he has something to work with, but this isn't it.

Historia
In The Optimist, David Coggins makes a case for the skills and sensibility of an enduring sport and shares the secrets, frustrations, and triumphs of the great tradition of fly fishing, which has captivated anglers worldwide. Written in wry, wise, and keenly observed prose, each chapter focuses on a specific place, fish, and skill. Few individuals, for example, have the visual acuity required to catch the nearly invisible bonefish of the Bahamas flats.

Lovely prose, soporific narration
Revisado: 04-15-24
I think most fly fishers would agree that fly fishing is exciting, and Coggins' skillfully crafted prose conveys that excitement. Unfortunately the narrator sounds as if he's been sedated. My advice would be to read the printed book.

Tedious

From reading the descriptions, this sounded like an interesting fantasy series. It is, instead, a tiresome pseudo-Victorian bodice-ripper. If I hadn't got it on a 2-for-1 I'd return it.

Historia
The Men on the Sixth Floor has charted a new course in the research of the JFK assassination. Containing fascinating, never before seen documents, the JFK book was a major focus of Nigel Turner's History Channel Documentary - "The Men Who Killed Kennedy/The Guilty Men" in 2003. But legal action was threatened by LBJ associates, leading to the banning of further sales or broadcasting of the program. "The Men on the Sixth Floor" was the first book to introduce Malcolm Wallace to the assassination community. It was the first Jfk conspiracy book to tie Wallace to the owner of the Texas School ...

A fascinating account made almost boring by Virtual Voice
Revisado: 03-03-24
I was alive at the time of the Kennedy assassination and thought at the time that the one with the most to gain from JFK's death was Lyndon Johnson. Obviously, others have come to the same conclusion over time, and this book introduced hitherto unknown participants in the plot, all with ties to LBJ. The story of the authors' research would have been riveting had it not been for the Virtual Voice narration. Yeah, I know Audible can make a lot more books available cheaper with VV but, like all bad human narrators, VV can make a book that's worth reading painful to listen to. This and, I suspect, many other books deserve better.

Historia
Annie Collins emerged from the wreckage of the last invasion of Sorrow Falls with a spaceship in her garden, a loud alien idea in her head, and—because returning to college was out of the question—a lot of free time. What she chose to do with the idea, the spaceship, and all that free time, kickstarted a worldwide technological boom. Now, nine years later, it seems as if not a day passes without the announcement of a new breakthrough in something, be it quantum computing, nuclear energy, neurobiology, or some other esoteric corner of cutting-edge science.

Wa-a-ay too long
Revisado: 12-13-23
I really enjoyed the first book in the series, and think the second was OK. Both were a good deal longer than they needed to be. Doucette writes like someone talking who *really* enjoys the sound of his own voice. this book was a waste of 14 hours and 41 minutes out of my life that I'll never get back. If a really good editor had got hold of all three books and cut out all of the extraneous stuff, the result could have been one pretty entertaining story. Too bad that didn't happen.

Interesting concept, but that's about all
Revisado: 02-04-23
After reading all of the reviews that described this book as a real page-turner, I was happy to see it show up as a daily deal. Unfortunately, the only reason I could find to turn the pages was to get it over with, and I couldn't even do that. The premise has potential, which is why I gave the story two stars. But the writing is formulaic and flat, and so are the characters. I think the narrator did his best with what he had to work with, but overall I just got bored, decided I didn't care what happened, and stopped listening in the middle.

Historia
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

I'd give three-quarters of it five stars
Revisado: 09-08-22
First the good part. King is an absolute master at creating vivid characters, both good and evil. As usual with King, the book begins with real-world situations that are completely believable and absorbing. King is also a talented and meticulous writer. Anyone who can write 600 pages with only a couple of grammatical errors is practically a miracle worker in this day and age. Numrich's narration is superb.
All that said, after listening to half of the book I skipped over something like the next five hours because the plot was becoming so predictable. This was confirmed when I resumed listening to find no surprises whatsoever.
There are a number of Stephen King books to which I've happily listened several times. Fairy Tale isn't one of those. I won't say it was a waste of 18+ hours -- good writing is always a pleasure -- but I'll be hoping for better next time.
