Historia
This volume is dominated by the almost continual confrontation of great armies. For the fourth time, the Army of the Potomac (now under the control of Burnside) attempts to take Richmond, resulting in the bloodbath at Fredericksburg. Then Joe Hooker tries again, only to be repulsed at Chancellorsville as Stonewall Jackson turns his flank, a bitter victory for the South, paid for by the death of Lee's foremost lieutenant.

Better buy some period maps to reference
Revisado: 08-18-16
Where does The Civil War: A Narrative, Volume II, Fredericksburg to Meridian rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
These are great books, full of great, interesting, details on the Civil War if you are a Civil War buff. Saying that, if you are able to visualize the map details, then this is for you. I had to get a Original Map of the Civil War battles to know what/where the author was referring too. If you don't know the geography, you better have a map to follow along
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Civil War: A Narrative, Volume II, Fredericksburg to Meridian?
The amount of horses that were killed at Chickamauga
What didn’t you like about Grover Gardner and Ken Burns (introduction) ’s performance?
Perfect
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Sort of both
Any additional comments?
I have been to every major battlefield, studied the Civil War for 40 years and I still learned and enjoyed these books. They are fascinating because I find it hard to believe that the generals were highly articulate yet embodied with a lust for glory.

Best series I have yet to read
Revisado: 05-29-16
What did you love best about Born of the Ashes?
The geometry of the battles (both space and atmosphere) might be hard to follow for the novice, but being a F-16 fighter pilot I find it fascinating how the author follows good sound tactical practices
What did you like best about this story?
Easy to follow but I spent much time rewinding to capture complex intertwined plots
Which character – as performed by Jeffrey Kafer – was your favorite?
Josh - he has the Right stuff. A natural cocksure but not arrogant pilot
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
The Ark of Knowledge

Great historical account but diabolical in value
Revisado: 04-12-16
What did you like best about Devil’s Dream? What did you like least?
The account and narrative gives one a tremendous insight into the nature of life, conditions, and poverty during the period. I loved the way it is narrated. I believe it is realistic in word and dialogue the way people actually talked in West Tennessee, Mississippi valley.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
The author jumps around too much chronologically. One chapter you are in 1864 and the next 1858. Hard to follow all the individuals names and relationships.
What about Scott Sowers’s performance did you like?
Excellent rendering of the worded book narrative. The reflection and accent appeared to be accurate
Was Devil’s Dream worth the listening time?
Sort of !! Sometimes I wished I would have just put it down and forgot it. The image of a schizophrenic, demon possessed individual jumps out when Forrest loses control upset me. He walked a fine line between a Hitler and a Robert E. Lee. Only two individuals have any control over him when he has become possessed. His wife and his mother.

Historia
This was the first book to cover all of Cold War air combat in the words of the men who waged it. In I Always Wanted to Fly, retired United States Air Force Colonel Wolfgang W. E. Samuel has gathered first-person memories from heroes of the cockpits and airstrips. Battling in dogfights when jets were novelties, saving lives in grueling airlifts, or flying covert and dangerous reconnaissance missions deep into Soviet and Chinese airspace, these flyers waged America's longest and most secretively conducted air war.

Historia
From the Audie-nominated narrator of The Martian. In eleven years' time, a million members of an alien race will arrive at Earth. Years before they enter orbit, their approach will be announced by the flare of a thousand flames in the sky, their ships' huge engines burning hard to slow them from the vast speeds needed to cross interstellar space. These foreboding lights will shine in our night sky like new stars, getting ever brighter until they outshine even the sun, casting ominous shadows and banishing the night until they suddenly blink out.

The New York Times best-selling author of Viper Pilot and retired USAF F-16 legend Dan Hampton offers the first comprehensive popular history of combat aviation - a unique, entertaining, and action-packed look at the aces of the air and their machines, from the Red Baron and his triplane in World War I to today's technologically expert flying warriors in supersonic jets.

This book is a shack (hits a bullseye)
Revisado: 06-27-14
Would you listen to Lords of the Sky again? Why?
After reading Edward H. Sims - The Greatest Aces, I thought I had gotten the fighter pilot history lesson. Little did I know there were yet vast unpublished information about the historical ascent of fighter pilots that had contributed to their rise. Dan Hampton has scored a hit here and retrieved history lessons I had never heard before. He does a great job with detail (with audio you must not slumber least you will miss something important). Well arranged with a historical rise beginning with the Wright brothers to modern day aircraft, he manages to describe why a fighter pilot can be skillfully honed but not created. This skill is in so many ways (he calls it hands) must be part of the natural order of creation.
What did you like best about this story?
Puts together history in the right order to explain the rise of the fighter pilot, his tactics and their strategies.
Have you listened to any of John Pruden’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Great
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Pride. Someone has finally explained the uniqueness of the fighter pilot
Any additional comments?
If you are disappointed that you are not a fighter pilot and upset that you never got the chance, than this book is not for you. If you can find objectivity in your heart without the jealous pains of "Why not me!", then you will find out why the fighter fraternity is for just a few precious individuals. I have seen so many pilots think they have the "Right Stuff", only to be losers.
