The story is pretty good and probably would have seemed better with a good human reader like R. C. Bray. But the AI reader is terrible. Very poor inflection and punctuation is nonexistent. I couldn't finish it as it's very drab and boring with the AI. I hope this trend goes away.

Where does A Long Time Until Now rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Very high up

Any additional comments?

I don't write alot of reviews but I felt inclined to do so here. The book starts off a little slow but takes off and turned out to be one of the best SciFi books I've ever listened too. It actually has an END!! Well balanced with likable characters. This squad of soldiers deals with a very unique set of circumstances and sticks together. But the important thing is that it kept me interested throughout the entire story. They solved every problem they encountered without having to start a war with everyone they encounter. I do like my battle stories but this was a good solid story of endurance and dealing with adversity. I was very relieved that it had an ending to it and didn't lend itself to a series. Very different from other SciFi books.

Take a chance, you WON'T be disappointed!

If you could sum up The Outcast in three words, what would they be?

A MUST LISTEN

Any additional comments?

This is a great story set in the same world with good "connectors" to the core of the storyline throughout. I found it to be VERY enjoyable and can't wait for the next book.

Any additional comments?

A US NAVY DDG without a helicopter?? I don't think so. And a nuke. Why no MOPP suits??? How did the world escalate to nuclear war so fast??? Too many questions.

This is a case where the TV series is MUCH BETTER than the book.

I don't usually write a review but after reading the one before mine I felt the need to bump it down.

As a Naval veteran I find the authors' use of relative motion simplistic and realistic. Meaning, it adds a realism to the story you don't get in any other sci fi novels. It has added a dimension to the story and gets you thinking and trying to visualize the relative motion and drift. Scenarios sailors have to deal with day in and day out. Ships simply don't stop on a dime. The important factors are the characters are likeable, the story flows and the battles are very interesting. I loved the balance between the politico and the captain of the ship on each side of Black Jack. I am going to purchase the entire series. Great book...Keep them coming!!

Destroyermen and The Lost Regiment

Total
5 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 05-05-09

Wow, this is a great series but I'm surprised nobody's mentioned the similarities between the Destroyermen series and the Lost Regiment series by William Forstchen.

The parallels are too close to ignore. USS Walker lost in a weird storm and comes out in an alternate Earth. The 35th Maine regiment on a ship lost in a weird storm comes out in an alternate planet. Lt Commander Reddy of the USS Walker in total command of allied forces, Colonel Keane of the 35th Maine in total command of allied forces. "Cats" joining the ranks of the USS Walker, RUS joining the ranks of the 35th Maine. The traitor Capt. Tobias and his LT remaining loyal to Keane. The traitor Capt. Kaufman and his LT remaining loyal to Reddy. The woman nurse attracted to Reddy. The woman nurse attracted to Keane. The monsters eating people in both books...SGT Major Schuder made a general to train the locals in The Lost Reg. SGT Adler made a general to train the locals in Destroyermen. Overwhelming numers of enemy hordes in both series. "Cats" learning english better than the humans learning the cat tongue. The Rus and others learning English better than Keane and Co.

Still it's a great and entertaining story but completely lifted...Not Exaclty the same but c'mon...Anyone who's read The Lost Regiment Series will recognize it immediately...

If you loved the lost regiment, you'll love this series!!
