excellent
Revisado: 10-19-24
I thought this short story was excellent. It had a captivating story line with a lot of suspense. The ending was soooo good.
I must say that I had a hard time accessing the review option. This is probably why there's no previous reviews.

Historia
Shots rang out in Savannah's grandest mansion in the misty, early morning hours of May 2, 1981. Was it murder or self-defense? For nearly a decade, the shooting and its aftermath reverberated throughout this hauntingly beautiful city of moss-hung oaks and shaded squares. John Berendt's sharply observed, suspenseful, and witty narrative flows like a thoroughly engrossing novel, and yet it is a work of nonfiction.

Boring....so slow, I can't finish the book.
Revisado: 07-16-24
Incredibly S L O W.....I'm into Chapter 8 and I'm bored to death. I stopped a couple of times saying to myself "it'll get better soon" it hasn't. The characters are bossy, absurd, and unbelievable.

Historia
Gloria French was a jolly widow with dyed blonde hair, a raucous laugh, and rosy cheeks. When she first moved from London to the charming Cotswold hills, she was heartily welcomed. She seemed a do-gooder par-excellence, raising funds for the church and caring for the elderly. But she had a nasty habit of borrowing things and not giving them back. They're just small things - a teapot here, a set of silverware there - so it's quite the shock when she is found dead, murdered with a poisoned bottle of elderberry wine.

Too long and drawn out
Revisado: 01-27-24
The Detective, this story is about isn't likeable in the least. She was selfish, interferring and pushy. I wouldn't waste my time listening to another book. It was boring and very repeatative and way too long. All the characters seem to have major characters flaws and instead of making the story more intriguing I found myself totally bored right to the end.

The story plot was excellent.
Revisado: 01-20-24
I feel the title of the book doesn't really reflect the story line. I've read every book in the series but I would think if you weren't already familiar with Strike's family you'd be totally confused. The last point I'd like to make is I really dislike the "prelude quotes" at the beginning of each new chapter. All in all, I love the narrator, Strike and of course Robin. I'll definitely buy the next in the series.

Jill and Derick knew a normal life wasn’t possible for them. As a star on the popular TLC reality show 19 Kids and Counting, Jill grew up in front of viewers who were fascinated by her family’s way of life. She was the responsible, second daughter of Jim Bob and Michelle’s nineteen kids; always with a baby on her hip and happy to wear the modest ankle-length dresses with throat-high necklines.

After hearing this book I have a much different impression of the Dillard's. They went through a lot and I'm glad they're better for it. I couldn't stop until I finished the book.

Wait! It Mightn't Be What You Think--

Horrible, simply horrible.
Revisado: 07-11-17
This story goes on and on and says a whole lot of nothing.
I kept waiting for real substance thinking it was going to get better but it never did. It ended abruptly and with no end to the story at all .. just no more words. It was a very long total waste of time. I wouldn't even give it one star if I didn't have to.
