Historia
A Spanish colonial governor and his family are pursued through the Caribbean by a pair of mysterious ships from the Dutch island of St. Eustatius. The British frigate Medina rescues the governor from his hurricane-wrecked ship, leading Captain Edward Carlisle and his first lieutenant George Holbrooke into a web of intrigue and half-truths. Are the Dutchmen operating under a letter of marque, or are they pirates, and why are they hunting the Spaniard? Only the diplomatic skills of Carlisle’s aristocratic wife, Lady Chiara, can solve the puzzle.

Part three in a spellbinding maritime series of books
Revisado: 04-19-25
Chris Durbin continues to we’ve science, history, drama, intrigue, and a quick wit into a most compelling series based around the wartime adventures of Carlisle and Holbrook in the French and Indian war. I highly recommend the series and cannot wait to start book for.

Historia
In late 1756, as the British government collapses in the aftermath of the loss of Minorca, and the country and navy are thrown into political chaos, a small force of ships is sent to the West Indies to reinforce the Leeward Islands Squadron. Captain Edward Carlisle and his first lieutenant George Holbrooke are fresh from the Mediterranean and their capture of a powerful French man-of-war. Their new frigate Medina has orders to join a squadron commanded by a terminally ill commodore. Their mission: a near-suicidal assault on a strong Caribbean island fortress.

Continuing a fantastic adventure!
Revisado: 04-02-25
Chris Durbin continues to combine a fast moving story with technical and historical brilliance in the second part of the series that should receive more acclaim than it has in its place in historical fiction. I cannot wait to start part three, as the characters become more rounded, more compelling, and more enjoyable as the adventure continues.

Historia
Captain Carlisle hails from Virginia, a loyal colony of the British Crown. As the clouds of war gather, Carlisle's small frigate is ordered to Toulon on a reconnaissance mission. If battling the winter weather in the Gulf of Lions is not a sufficient challenge, Carlisle must also juggle the delicate diplomatic issues in this period of pre-war tension while contending with an increasingly belligerent French frigate. But Carlisle has additional problems unique to his colonial origins.

Fantastic adventure, expertly researched, and detailed
Revisado: 03-17-25
Chris Durban does a fantastic job researching every aspect of this high seas adventure. He knows the history, the science of sailing ships, and the political intrigue of the day, and weaves them all together and a nail biting tail, that is both filling and leaving you wanting more at the same time. Highly recommend recommended.

Historia
Readers of Richard Scott’s time-travel novel Mission in Time wrote that it was too bad he didn’t write a sequel. Well here it is, The Second Mission. The Second Mission takes off three years after Gil and Tom ended up 240 years back in time instead of the two years into the future they had expected to find themselves. Christopher Carver and Matthew Blair expect to benefit from what was learned from the first time-travel mission out of the secret government test facility in the Nevada desert. They fully expect the mission to be far more accurate than the first. But time travel isn’t ...

What a waste of “time”
Revisado: 03-07-25
The first book in the series was OK, even if it dragged at times, but this sequel was slow, poorly thought out and written, boring, and the virtual voice used to tell the story of a man should not be a woman, so sorry about that. Don’t waste your time, there’s so much better time travel And alternate history fiction out there to spend your time and money on.

Historia
The Second World War lasted for 2,174 days, cost $1.5 trillion, and claimed the lives of more than 50 million people. Why did the Axis lose? And could they, with a different strategy, have won? Andrew Roberts's acclaimed new history has been hailed as the finest single-volume account of this epic conflict. From the western front to North Africa, from the Baltic to the Far East, he tells the story of the war - the grand strategy and the individual experience, the cruelty and the heroism - as never before.

Expertly, narrated, well, detailed, and the best voice of any audiobook I’ve ever listen to
Revisado: 09-30-23
Very well researched, and narrated. The reader of this book had all of the accents down pat, and really added to the enjoyment of the story, as it moves along more like a novel than a history book. There is such a broad range of information available on the second world war, but it’s hard to pick out the major events that really moved it along through history. This book hits the mark.

The author transports you to the very time and place, almost to the expert degree of letting you suffer and rejoice alongside these amazing brave men. Nothing is left out, yet leaves you wanting more and desiring your own life and death adventure. I give this my very highest recommendation.

Everyone with an interest in America's greatest battle comes up against its controversies. What if J. E. B. Stuart had arrived on the battlefield before the second day? What if Ewell had pressed hard on the heels of the Union rout on the first day? What if Pickett's charge had been stronger and better led? What if the Army of the Potomac had been commanded by a more aggressive counter attacker than Meade?
