Investigate weird goings on for a living? What kind of nutbag would do that? Well, the kind with bills to pay, actually. In the quiet seclusion of the Appalachia mountains, something evil stirs. Home to generations of witches, the entire region knows the lore, and everyone knows someone with at least a suggestion of the supernatural in their family. So when Edgar Corey, one time FBI field agent and all-round recluse, is called upon to help the sheriff with what sounds like a supernatural case, he automatically turns him down. Or wished he had because all too soon he’s up to his neck in a ...

Historia
When a magical plague is released in a Depression-era New York soup kitchen, private detective Alex Lockerby finds himself in a desperate hunt to catch a madman before he can strike again. His investigations lead Alex to a famous thief, a daring heist, and the search for a mythic book of ancient magic, but none of that brings him any closer to finding the man responsible for the massacre. With the police and New York’s Council of Sorcerers desperate to find the culprit, Alex becomes a suspect himself, thanks to his ties to the priest who ran the soup kitchen.

Historia
In 1972, Jeff Rice's novel The Night Stalker introduced Carl Kolchak to the world. This spine-tingling novel of supernatural terror became an instant best seller and served as the basis for the film of the same name. After The Night Stalker became one of the highest rated television movies of all time, a sequel, The Night Strangler, was released the following year to great acclaim. Now, after more than three decades out of print, The Night Stalker and The Night Strangler are together in one volume.

It's America in 1962. Slavery is legal once again. The few Jews who still survive hide under assumed names. In San Francisco, the I Ching is as common as the Yellow Pages. All because some twenty years earlier the United States lost a war - and is now occupied by Nazi Germany and Japan.

Ups and downs
Revisado: 04-16-18
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Overall I would probably tell a friend its a good book unfortunately does not live up to all the hype associated with the TV series
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
It just sees to END...maybe would be better is there was a sequel
What does Jeff Cummings bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I think his performance makes the book come alive/
Did The Man in the High Castle inspire you to do anything?
worked a couple RPG adventures in the setting
Any additional comments?
Normally love PK Dick's work...I guess its the historian in me but I just thought it was not up to his usual standards.
