Historia
After moving from a small country town to Seattle, Heather Baxter marries Tom, a widowed doctor with a young son and teenage daughter. A working vacation overseas seems like the perfect way to bring the new family together, but once they’re deep in the Australian outback, the jet-lagged and exhausted kids are so over their new mom. When they discover remote Dutch Island, off-limits to outside visitors, the family talks their way onto the ferry. But as soon as they set foot on the island, which is run by a tightly knit clan of locals, everything feels wrong.

This is a great story. As with any book I really enjoy, I wish it had been another couple of hours.
If you loved The Chain, you will love The Island. It’s an original idea, great character development, and twists til the end

Historia
I was so excited when Darcy announced out of the blue that we were flying to Kenya for our extended honeymoon. Now that we are here, I suspect he has actually been sent to fulfill another secret mission. I am trying very hard not to pick a fight about it, because after all, we are in paradise! Darcy finally confides that there have been robberies in London and Paris. It seems the thief was a member of the aristocracy and may have fled to Kenya. Since we are staying in the Happy Valley, we are well positioned to hunt for clues and ferret out possible suspects.

Not what I have come to expect from this series 🙁
Revisado: 10-04-19
The characters and plot were not very well developed. I didn’t find myself caring about the fate of any of them. Everything just seemed so contrived. There is usually an underlying sense of humor which seemed to be lacking here.
I know that the choice of a new narrator occurred because of necessity, however, Ms Blackborow did not do justice to any of the voices except Georgie. Everyone else pretty much blended into one.
I’m really disappointed as this has been one of my favorite series (with great characters) for a light-hearted listen

Really not good
Revisado: 03-11-18
This book sought to shock and dismay. The acts of the two brothers are definitely depraved so the goal of the book, in that sense, is accomplished. But there is nothing else. A litany of torture with no depth of character development. Menapace explains when the brothers when off the rails, but offers no reason as to why. The victims' portrayals are never dealt with in enough detail that the reader can be empathetic. I just felt mortified that such things were happening. There is a lack a depth that would make this book anything more than vacuous attempt to horrify

Historia
With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Nightingale to be better than the print version?
It took me a bit to get into the book, but once I did I had a hard time putting it down. It is well written and the character development is some of the best I have encountered. If you enjoy historical novels and love learning about the WWII era, I highly recommend the 1 credit
