Jennifer Thorne skewers all-too-familiar family dynamics in this sly, wickedly funny vacation-Gothic. Beautifully unhinged and deeply satisfying, Diavola is a sharp twist on the classic haunted house story, exploring loneliness, belonging, and the seemingly inescapable bonds of family mythology.

Finally after a year of passing by this recommended title, this horror lover bought it…
Revisado: 09-09-24
And SO happy I did! Eloquently written, full of creepy vibes and surprise twists, I was surprised how much I loved this book! As a strictly horror reader, I ignored this recommendation because they sample. Did it zero justice…. I felt like this was going to be one of those ladies book clubs type of books..which are great, but don’t usually create the sense of dread and fear that I look for in a good book. I stayed up waaaaaay too late a couple of nights in a row, unable to stop listening as the story maintained a constant level of intensity and a need to find out “what happens next?!” Creepy, interesting, engaging..this book is made for the horror fan who craves an elevated writing style and an overall dreadfully creepy story!

Ollie and Caro Harcourt are moving house with their 12-year-old daughter Jade. Ollie is desperate to leave the city. Caro is less sure. Then they view Cold Hill House, a dilapidated rural mansion, and fall instantly in love. It's expensive, but with its space, seclusion, and huge grounds, it seems like a brilliant idea. That is, until they arrive. It soon becomes apparent that they are not alone. A spectral woman appears on screens and walks the corridors, vanishing before she can be challenged.

Holy. Haunted. Horror HIT!
Revisado: 08-21-24
As always, I only write reviews if i read/hear a book that lands into what I consider “high caliber horror”... and this one hits all of my requirements! 👉🏼1. Wonderfully created characters. You can love or hate them, but they have to be written in a way that you can FEEL them! 👉🏼2. Developed writing. This is where many horror books go wrong for me. If I feel like it was written by my 17-year-old in her creative writing class, it is a miss for me. This book had a quick pace and was very well written. 👉🏼3. Actual fear of the dark and inability to stop reading/listening. Since her is my favorite genre, I feel like I am not easily scared. I know I have a good book if I can’t stop listening. Better yet, if the writer can make me feel creeped out enough to feel like running quickly to my bed so nothing reaches out and grabs me at 2 AM. 👉🏼4. Unique storyline. Often times I feel like if you’ve read one haunted house/zombie/vampire book, you’ve read them all. This author took the same ole’ subject of “family moves in to their Dreamhouse and is horrified to find out it’s haunted” and created a unique plot that actually Twisted and turned right to the very last page!
I don’t know why this one was free for plus members, but I’m so glad it was… Horror fans, this book is a must !!

Historia
Fans of The Conjuring and The Amityville Horror will love this chilling new novel unraveling the tale of a family haunted by the ghosts of their malevolent ancestors’ disturbing past. The decrepit well has been a fountain of terror for generations, an abyss of dread that emits tragedy and death like fog. Its darkness touched Jacob’s soul some twenty years ago, and since moving back to his ancestral home, the chilling feeling of being in front of the old well hasn’t left his troubled mind. But this time, the shadows that creep from the well have taken on a malevolent sentience, ...

Best horror freebie yet
Revisado: 08-17-24
While I don’t like the computer voice reading, it didn’t bother me as much as some live narrators have - the conversation part of AI was terrible but the rest was pretty dang good.
I love a good horror book, so this was right up my alley. In fact, I’ve blown through what feels like every horror book out there, so I’m excited to see what other books are available from this author.

Excellent freebie for horror fans!
Revisado: 08-09-24
Entertaining and unique twist on an oftentimes tired storyline-the apocalypse, a handful of survivors, and the grueling days after. Overall I mostly enjoy this sub genre, but found most all of the books before these to be slight variations of this same story.. until this one! This series follows a group of likable survivors struggling to live with a unique causation - not by way of zombies or aliens, nor a sweeping global pandemic, or government experiment gone rogue but a hinted at combo of all! Best audible plus pick in a long while!

This book is mislabeled as horror
Revisado: 08-04-24
Those who are voracious audible listeners such as myself know the value of each credit…I only listen/read horror 99% of the time and was super disappointed when it was clear about 30% of the way though that this book was NOT horror. The storyline was alright, narration great, but content was pretty underwhelming and slightly ridiculous. Pass on this one if you’re looking for a good horror read..buy it if you like low heartbeat suspense.

Love when I can find a new horror author who brings all the requirements I consider necessary for a good and true horror book! Fresh topic, actual sense of fear and excellent character development brought together in a perfect literary style geared toward adult horror fans! Excellent narration topped this horror sundae for me to make it to my “favorites” library!

Why this was recommended for horror is beyond me
Revisado: 01-04-24
Fine book for someone intending to read suspense or women’s/family thriller- kept popping up as recommended and figured I’d give it a try as it has been included in my horror recommendations for months and months. Um, no. I could see this being mainstream popular, but felt very basic to me - figured it out with 5 hours
Left in the story. I never read negative reviews, but I’ll keep getting family suspense thrillers as recommendations unless I leave my review.

When the only thing I listen to is horror, making it to my faves is a big deal
Revisado: 12-30-23
This will be a pretty short, but sweet review… As my title states, I really only listen to horror audiobooks, so to get a review is a big deal for me. But to get put on my favorites list, is an even bigger deal for me. I feel like I was pretty ruined to any author of horror, as my first taste of horror came from voraciously, reading my moms hand me down Stephen king and koontz books as a 10/11 year old. I loved the way these authors could allow me to immerse myself into their books through excellent character development, and even better storytelling. Throw in their ability to tell a tale that would not only
Keep me reading through the night because I simply couldn’t put it down,..or turn off the lights when I finally did put it down for fear of the words I’d read!
About one out of 18 audiobooks that I have listened to in the past several years has been a five star for me - this is one! All of the qualities that made King, well, the King of Horror, are found in this excellent book. Fans of King and Koontz, buy this book now..you won’t be disappointed!

The small town of Harrod’s Reach has seen its fair share of the macabre, especially inside the decrepit old train tunnel around which the town was built. After a young boy, Sully Dupree, is injured in the abandoned tunnel and left in a coma, the townspeople are determined to wall it up. Deputy sheriff Beth Gardner is reluctant to buy into the superstitions until she finds two corpses at the tunnel’s entrance, each left with strange calling cards inscribed with old lullabies. Soon after, Sully Dupree briefly awakens from his coma.

Meh for horror lovers
Revisado: 12-05-23
I feel like this is one of those books that a narrator can make, or break the entire tone of the story. I like longer books (which meets that requirement) and good solid character development (which was pretty good ). The storyline was even pretty unique which I also liked but oh.‘em.Gee…the narrators portrayal of the female voices was mind numbingly annoying. To the point that I forced myself through those parts as they were important to the storyline, the kids voices were the same as the female voices imagine mocking somebody and trying to make your voice sound like a whiny valley girl times 10. I get that the character was supposed to be annoying and unlikable, but it was beyond intolerable. This narrator also whistles his s’s every once in a while, but that was no big deal… Rarely have, I heard an author, that is excellent at the voice of the story, and all the characters, but so terrible at the characters of the opposite sex! It was hard to give this a real rating, because the narrator was so distracting that it felt impossible to get immersed into the story very deeply. This author has two other books that are
fan -freaking-tastic and a few that almost seem like a different writer!
