Excellent as always!
Revisado: 04-19-25
The premise of the story was a little far-fetched, but that’s what we expect from an excellent novel, isn’t it?

Revisado: 03-30-25
The story was excellent. No politics or woke crap for a change. But, the story doesn’t end, so there will likely be at least one more “installment” to the saga.

So many words. So little story!
Revisado: 11-22-24
I have listened to the entire Quarry series and have enjoyed each prior novel. This one, however, included so much unnecessary content (descriptions adnauseam) coupled with a very weak plot line, that it was all I could do to finish the book.

A distress call draws rescuers Sloan McPherson and the Underwater Investigation Unit to a cruise ship off the coast of Fort Lauderdale that’s sinking from a mysterious explosion. When it appears to be the work of an ecoterrorist and other ships are threatened, it becomes a race against time. More clues are discovered, and evidence is in danger of being washed away by a coming tropical storm. Sloan grows concerned that key details are being ignored, and a strange lack of urgency by authorities sets off alarms.

Rushed, trite ending
Revisado: 05-07-24
A long, complicated and very convoluted storyline with silly back-and-forth jousting between a powerful billionaire and two staffers from a small. obscure agency in Florida, now working between there and California? Somehow these two get assigned as deputies to increasingly powerful government agencies with a couple of phone calls from an unnamed omnipotent benefactor? So much suspension of disbelief is needed to get you to an end that the author seemed to put together in about 2 minutes as his literary agent was pressing him for a finished novel.

Historia
In 1968, Nate Heller is there when Robert Kennedy is shot at the Ambassador Hotel. Heller takes it upon himself to investigate the murder when a friend of his and Bobby’s raises doubts about the LAPD’s investigation. Heller strongly suspects the involvement of Jimmy Hoffa (currently imprisoned), but Hoffa seems to be in the clear as the private eye looks into the possible presence of CIA enemies of RFK’s on the murder night, the apparent manipulation of Sirhan Sirhan into a Manchurian Candidate-style assassin, and a probable second shooter.

These stories that insert Nathan Heller into actual historical events are exceptionally entertaining. Well-researched and believable (even though they’re fictional).

This was exceptionally well researched and presented. The information is easy to follow and understand. Yes, it will take practice and some trial and error, but this book sounds like it will make taking the journey into researching new wines exciting.

Stellar storyline and excellent narration
Revisado: 10-08-23
Yes, I’ve listened to every Davenport story, and of course I also miss Richard Ferrone; however, he passed last year and the narrator baton had to be passed to someone. I think that Robert Petkoff was a solid choice. As for the storyline? I thought that it was well-researched and very interesting and believable. Very much looking forward to the next installment…

Historia
Killing the Witches revisits one of the most frightening and inexplicable episodes in American history: the events of 1692 and 1693 in Salem Village, Massachusetts. What began as a mysterious affliction of two young girls who suffered violent fits and exhibited strange behavior soon spread to other young women. Rumors of demonic possession and witchcraft consumed Salem. Soon three women were arrested under suspicion of being witches—but as the hysteria spread, more than 200 people were accused. Thirty were found guilty, twenty were executed, and others died in jail or their lives were ruined.

I’m sure this is a highly knowledgeable and skilled sommelier with lots of good information to share; however, his accent is too strong to understand some of the dialogue and most of the names of the wines he’s discussing.
