The story was cute with none of the mild angst drawn out longer than necessary. However I nearly stopped listening at multiple times because of the narrator. There was a little to no expression in the voice which made it hard to follow who was speaking. Additionally, the AI seemed to either give way too long a pause or no pause throughout the story making transitions between the dual perspectives (female and male lead) and the flow of the story choppy. I suppose this can be expected because the narrator is a computer, but I probably will avoid this type of narration until they improve the tech behind it.

Couple of plot points, I didn't enjoy are: I truly disliked the brothers character. He hated the female lead for absolutely no reason and acted irrationally the majority of the story. I also found it incongruous that the male lead was supposed to be a smart businessman, but consistently made poor choices when it came to the family business. I think the author could have really enhanced the storyline by explaining even briefly why each of these characters were so entrenched in some of their behaviors.

Still, I'd pick up this author again and give them another chance. I think their work probably translates much better on the written page than it does with a virtual narrator.

Tara Westover's writing made my breath catch.

My aunt recomended this book to me and it is one of the best books I have "read" this year.

The narrative Westover wove was an exquisite and intricate thing. Her early years on her mountain and then her experiences at university fairly pulsed with life. She painted them so vividly.

I wrote that her writing made my breath catch, but I should amend that. It was her story that truly left me breathless. One aspect in particular truly struck me. Her struggle as a freshmen to fill in gaps in her knowledge base. Knowledge that is so much a part of most people's educational cannon her ignorance was met with stark incredulity. It made me ask myself how different my perception of the world would be without my own carefully accumulated store of facts.

I found myself unnerved by the familiarity of some of the doctrines Tara grew up with. As I listened, the people in Tara's life who believed women can only find fulfillment as a wife and mother grew faces from my own childhood. I knew the pull Tara felt as she struggled to adjust her reality-I've felt it too.

It was an amazing book. An amazing story. I highly reccomend it.

The stories in this collection are quintessential Alcott-embodying the homely values that so mark her work. Each story is a eloquent, but simple illustration of what Alcott saw as the true meaning of Christmas; giving joy to others.

If you are feeling a bit jaded this holiday season these stories are just the right medicine to restore your Christmas spirit.

A World Undone Audiolibro Por G. J. Meyer arte de portada

Engaging look at the World War One

Total

Revisado: 09-29-17

Mr. Meyer wrote a book that kept me hungry for more, not for the book, but for stories of the people and places he recounted. Have the French archives opened its records of the Mutiny of 1917 yet? What do the battlefields of Verdun and the Somme look like today? Meyer presented interesting backstories accompanying each chapter which allowed the reader to take a deeper look into the impetus behind the actions of the people of the time.

It was a clear, well written, accurate, and fascinating book.

I hope he writes another about World War 2.
