Historia
In Fallen Tigers: The Fate of America's Missing Airmen in China During World War II, historian Daniel Jackson sheds light on the stories of downed aviators who attempted to evade capture by the Japanese in their bid to return to Allied territory. He reveals that the heroism of these airmen was equaled, and often exceeded, by the Chinese soldiers and civilians who risked their lives to return them safely to American hands.

Missing airmen
Revisado: 01-27-25
This is the most in depth book about the air war in China. I have read several accounts of the flying tigers, but this book covers other types of air craft besides just fighter pilots. The respect the Chinese people showed former airmen, even in the 21st century was amazing. The human bonds of war experiences are truly strong over many years. I would highly recommend this book to everyone. The youth of today could learn much from reading it. Freedom is never free.

Historia
On a scorching September day in 1942, the Special Air Service (SAS), a special forces unit of the British Army, pulled off one of the most daring, top-secret ruses of the Second World War. The plan (sanctioned by Churchill): cover a grueling 2,000 miles of the Sahara desert to attack German general Erwin Rommel's seemingly impregnable port fortress in North Africa from the rear to break free and arm more than 30,000 Allied POWs.

Tough men
Revisado: 01-23-25
I enjoyed the adventures of a unique bunch of men. The hardships endured by these men, in harsh conditions was epic. I enjoyed the story line which was well written. Their dedication to each other and their country was a testament to their courage and fortitude. Our youth needs to read stories like this so they know what sacrifices have been made to keep them free today. Freedom is not with out its costs. Fight for it or lose it. I recommend this book to every one.

Historia
Here is the astonishing, never-before-told story of the greatest rescue mission of World War II: when the OSS set out to recover more than 500 airmen trapped behind enemy lines. During a bombing campaign, hundreds of American airmen were shot down in Nazi-occupied Yugoslavia. Local Serbian villagers risked their own lives to give refuge to the soldiers, and for months the airmen lived in hiding, waiting for rescue.

Screaming narrator
Revisado: 01-20-25
This was a great story about World War II. The story line was engaging and interesting. Having read a lot of history books, this one is right up there with the best. I give 1 star to the performance because the narrator was screaming half of the time. I didn't take much oratory emphasis to bring you out of a relaxed state.

In a remote enemy-held valley in Afghanistan, a Special Forces team planned to scale a steep mountain to surprise and capture a terrorist leader. But before they found the target, the target found them. The team was caught in a deadly ambush that threatened not only their lives but the entire mission. The elite soldiers fought huddled for hours on a small rock ledge as rocket-propelled grenades and heavy machine-gun fire rained down on them.

LESSONS NEVER LEARNED
Revisado: 01-03-25
Our military leaders never learn from past lessons. The same thing happened in Vietnam, where the higher ups weren't, in tune with what is going in the field. Sending troops into guarantied death traps hasn't changed. When will the leadership listen to the people in the field? Past history shows that it will probably never happen. The hubris of the higher echelon commanders will never change, because they aren't in tune with reality anymore. So the slaughter of the subordinates will continue unless there is a change of culture in the military. The military industrial complex is what keeps us going to war, because there is money to be made. When will we run out of bodies?

I endured 8 chapters before I decided this book was not for me. The mispronunciation of Hue started to grind on me. The story line didn't appeal to me. There are many stories about Vietnam, that I have read or listen to better than this one.

Historia
By the spring of 1970, American troops were ordered to pull out of Vietnam. The Marines of First Reconnaissance Battalion, commanded by Lieutenant Colonel "Wild Bill" Drumright, were assigned to cover the withdrawal of First Marine Division. The Marines of First RECON Bn operated in teams of six or seven men. Heavily armed, the teams fought a multitude of bitter engagements with a numerically superior and increasingly aggressive enemy. Michael C. Hodgins served in Company C, First RECON Bn (Rein), as a platoon leader. In powerful, graphic prose, he chronicles his experience.

An interesting and informative book about the Vietnam war. Well written. Best of all it was not a virtual voice narration, to distract the story line, with mispronunciations and other AI baloney. I would recommend this to anyone interested in the history of the Vietnam war.

Historia
One Trip Too Many, A Pilot’s Memoirs of 38 Months in Combat over Laos and Vietnam, is an autobiography about my life as a pilot in Southeast Asia during the conflict in Vietnam. It is primarily a story to share with family and friends about my personal involvement in the conflict and the turbulent decade of the 60s and does not attempt to question the politics of the era. It begins with a brief description of my quest to gain admittance to the United States Air Force Academy, my four years at the Academy, and the subsequent year of pilot training. I flew three different types of aircraft ...

One too many
Revisado: 12-29-24
I liked this book. The story line was very good. I have read many books on the Vietnam war and this one is one of the better ones. The virtual voice was a disservice to the author's story. The many mispronunciations were distracting and out right pathetic. I would buy this, but not with the virtual voice narration. Meegess (Migs?) and many other problems. Chapter 12 was not in the table of contents. I would not recommend this audible book. Buy the print version of the book instead.

A Vietnam Classic
Revisado: 10-28-23
This has become one of my favorite books of the Vietnam war. Having a large library of books about the war, this book is right near the top of the list. The author lived the maxim of never asking your men to do some thing that you wouldn't do your self. His going into the tunnels really surprised me as most officers wouldn't do it. A good leader that cared for his men. Speaking as the enemy was obviously based on the intelligence they gathered, in the field, from enemy documents. It should required reading at West Point.

Historia
Black Tulip locates the ambiguous truth about Erich Hartmann and so much of the German Wehrmacht in general: that many of these men were neither full-blown Nazis nor impeccable knights. They were complex, contradictory, and elusive. This book portrays a complex human rather than the heroic caricature we're used to, and it argues that the tidy, polished hero stories we've inherited about men like Hartmann say as much about those who've crafted them as they do about the heroes themselves.

The modern day hypocrit Erik Schmidt
Revisado: 10-11-22
The author is guilty of the very things he accused the other authors of the German air war stories. I have read most of the books he is critical of. He has basically rehashed the stories of the other authors, who at least interviewed the aces Erik complains about. It is obvious that he is anti military service, even of our own aces. From his own website under services he provides "Everybody needs excellent words to show the world who they are and why they matter." Isn't this what he accuses the other authors, the German and American aces of doing? Again from his own website under services provided "Imagine a world where your as-needed editor makes you sound even more awesome than you already are." He brags he is an aviation writer with one book to his credit. The aviation community probably is disappointed at his efforts to discredit them. This book wasn't worth the $3-4.00 I spent for it.

Historia
In November 1965, some 450 men of the First Battalion, Seventh Cavalry, under the command of Lt. Col. Hal Moore, were dropped by helicopter into a small clearing in the Ia Drang Valley. They were immediately surrounded by 2,000 North Vietnamese soldiers. Three days later, only two and a half miles away, a sister battalion was chopped to pieces. Together, these actions at the landing zones X-Ray and Albany constituted one of the most savage and significant battles of the Vietnam War. How these men persevered makes a vivid portrait of war at its most inspiring and devastating.

Best book on the Vietnam war.
Revisado: 03-31-22
This book on the first major battle on the war is a classic. It is a story about the soldiers love of one another, truly shows the bonds of war amongst the participants. The story is well written and narrated. Hal Moore's leadership made the difference in the out come of the battle. It is dedicated to both the American and the North Vietnamese soldiers who fought the battle. I would recommend this book to any one interested in the Vietnam war.
