This book is a return to form after 5 and 6. Seemed like Cornwell experimented with a story arc, and it wasn't quite as fun as the one off mysteries. this one is super good. and for those who aren't a fan of CJ critt's reading style, I highly suggest listening at 1.4 speed. makes it much snappier and more like a classic crime novel.

much better than the last couple of scarpetta novels. this one gets back to the standalone case style. if you don't like this reader, try listening at 1.4 speed.made a big difference.

I have been meaning to read these books for years, and now that I'm listening to them here I can't get enough. the performance is so good.

this book has been on my shelf for years and I can't believe I haven't read it until just now. I picked it up on audible because I've been going through audiobooks so much faster. the performance is great the book is really fun and so well written. even the dated 1990s computer references are charming. I loved it.

The nerd humor was too silly. Where the Martian was sarcastic and funny, this was just wacky. Like an old Buffy episode and the only character is Xander. Also lots and lots of puppeteering type description. "I shook my head and wagged my finger then shrugged and blinked twice." Like a book about a mime. But with nutty soliloquial banter. Maybe it was meant for middle schoolers and I'm being a snob.

like a lot of Morgan's work, the wordsmithing is first rate. I loved all the techno garbage and classic noir stylings. but pretty much all of the sex scenes felt shoehorned in, excuse the pun. almost like he had to hit a quota. and ultimately the story was kind of whatever after all this great build up. but the reading was excellent, and that made it enjoyable.

the audiobook production and performance were excellent. and the book is actually really well written in terms of the use of language. but the story is murky and when the big reveal happened, it played sort of flat.

The audio performance of this book is great. this guy always does good stuff. but the book itself is written as though the author is explaining computers to his grandma. it's okay that it's set in the 90s with dial-up and all that, but the little glossary definitions for every single term is fatiguing. The great tech thriller authors just leave the terms undefined, and let the reader pick it up through context. this feels like the author skimmed some articles on computer hacking and threw in everything he thought sounded cool. kind of like how the first fast and the furious movie just showed a bunch of car parts to rope in the import mod community, but didn't really understand the subculture.

The first TF book was good, but the audio book performance threw me off. this one is so much better. great reading and more likeable central character.
