Historia
In the snowbound city of Kiev, wry and bookish history student Mila Pavlichenko organizes her life around her library job and her young son—but Hitler’s invasion of Russia sends her on a different path. Given a rifle and sent to join the fight, Mila must forge herself from studious girl to deadly sniper—a lethal hunter of Nazis known as Lady Death. When news of her three hundredth kill makes her a national heroine, Mila finds herself torn from the bloody battlefields of the eastern front and sent to America on a goodwill tour.

Whole new perspective
Revisado: 03-28-25
Absolutely loved this story. This was the first novel I’ve read about the war from the Soviet perspective and it was eye opening. Thank you for introducing me to Mila. I have already purchased her autobiography and can’t wait to read more about this inspiring woman.

Historia
According to Confucius, “an educated woman is a worthless woman,” but Tan Yunxian—born into an elite family, yet haunted by death, separations, and loneliness—is being raised by her grandparents to be of use. Her grandmother is one of only a handful of female doctors in China, and she teaches Yunxian the pillars of Chinese medicine, the Four Examinations—looking, listening, touching, and asking—something a man can never do with a female patient.

But Veronica has recently discovered a late-life love for family and friendship, adventure and wildlife. More specifically, a love for penguins! And so when she's invited to co-present a wildlife documentary, far away in the southern hemisphere, she jumps at the chance. Even though it will put her in the spotlight, just when she thought she would soon fade into the wings.

Charming
Revisado: 03-14-25
This was a lovely follow up to the first book. I was thrilled to learn more about the characters and follow their adventures. I wasn’t a big fan of the voice of Patrick changing but it didn’t affect my enjoyment of the story overall.

Great story of a strong woman.
Revisado: 06-11-24
I loved this book. I didn’t know anything about Nancy Wake going into reading the book. It took me a little while to become invested in her character and adjust to the jumping back and forth between time frames but once I did I was hooked. I love that this is a true story and the author took the time to research her and the events keeping the story as close to the truth as possible. Great read and now I want to read more about her. She’s truly inspiring.

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

The characters are quick to capture your heart. This story is sweet and has a lovely ending. Just what I needed to read to break between deeper fantasy series.

Not very specific. I wouldn’t recommend if you are actually looking for multiple examples you can relate to and learn from. Quite generalizing

Best book on how to work through feeling betrayed
Revisado: 02-06-23
This is the first book I’ve read about trust that made sense. It made me feel like everything I went through wasn’t abnormal. The examples of other couple’s experiences were easy to relate to. She gives advice for moving forward that is easy to use. So thankful for finding this book and how much it has helped me through my feelings of being betrayed.

Appreciate his perspective
Revisado: 01-07-22
Overall I enjoyed the book. I appreciated the perspective from a man who knew that he would not live forever. I also applaud his positive and proactive approach to his cancer diagnosis. My greatest take away from the book came from him sharing how important it is to tell people what they mean to you while they are still living. I plan to do this with the people in my life now.
