Love the Duchess of Blackmore books. I really prefer the voice of Liz Gentle over Grace Noble. Liz does the characters voices so much better than Grace. Sorry Grace. Lenora's lady's maid is a middle aged Scottish woman not some high pitched teenager. I want Liz back! Please??

Lydia was never the most upstanding of the Bennet sisters, but who ever said that moral rectitude was fun? At least she bested her elder sisters and was the first to get married. She never could understand what all the fuss was about after she left Brighton with her gallant. It is a shame, though, that Mr. Wickham turned out to be a disappointing husband in so many aspects, the most notable being his early demise on the battlefields of Waterloo. And so Lydia, still not yet twenty and full of enterprising spirit, is in urgent need of a wealthy replacement.

Davina Porter is my favorite but I doubt if she could have redeemed this dismal story

Most historical fiction readers want to be swept away to another time by a great story of love, hope and dreams realized. This story started out very promising and failed to deliver any redemptive qualities. The heroine endures hardship after heart wrenching hardship. Everything lost and nothing gained.
If you want to be depressed and angry this is the story for you. If you want to escape with a sweeping grand story full of adventure and love don’t read this book.
If I could give a negative star I would!
