Sanctuary is part of the Mercy Hills series by Ann-Katrin Byrde, and is definitely one of the favourites of mine in the series.

This is the first book in the series where the plotline doesn’t play out anywhere near the Mercy Hills onclave until the very end of the book, and we obtain a wider view of the shifter world and the human world of the universe AKB created.

This is a sweet love story filled with adventure and is very different from all the Mercy Hills books until now.

The story follows Ori and Patton, childhood friends to lovers, who work together to overcome everything that comes between them, finally finding no other choice but to escape their birth onclave and then face the challenge of surviving as renegades, posing to be humans, in a world that is hostile towards shifters but is also very similar to our own world.

This story gives us a better idea of the way Omegas are raised in other packs, and the very narrow world-view of what is an appropriate life for an Omega.

Ori, the omega in this story, has a very adventurous spirit and despite trying his best to conform to the norms that are to be expected of him, he never gives up on and cherishes the friendship and secret love he harbours for his childhood friend Patton.

Patton, on his end, is heartbroken to find out he would never be allowed to mate Ori because he is a Beta and not an Alpha.
But on the day when Ori comes to him in desperate need to escape an arranged mating that was completely different from what he expected, Patton devices a plan for the two of them to escape.

The two go on an adventure that puts all their skills and ability to work together test - Patton’s way of macgyvering solutions, and Ori’s tale-spinning ability to make up stories to cover their identities, and find practical solutions that allow them to survive.

The duo are a unique and sweet pair, and I found myself rooting for them and holding my breath whenever danger struck again and again.
Between the moments where I feared for the dear two boys, were sweet, heartwarming moments of love, devotion and mutual admiration of each other between the young couple.

Nick’s narration as in all the Mercy Hills books is absolutely spectacular, as he captures each of the characters and give them each a unique voice.
Best of all - he even sings towards the end of the book!

In this book there are also a peak at a young Holland mated to the Alpha who eventually repudiates him, and a brief, yet heartfelt encounter with an omega called Felix, who has a book of his own later in the series and which I can’t wait to listen to in the future.

This is definitely one of the Mercy Hills books I will revisit again in the future.

Too Close Audiobook Review

This is a very touching and unique story, and Michael Lesley does an amazing job of delivering it.
I think to be fair to the readers who come in seeking romance - there is a romantic touch to it. However, the story itself revolves around Skylar’s struggle to take care of his younger sister, a struggle that lead him to live with an abusive man.
And around Dexter - the person who sees him, and tries to reach out to him, but struggles to come through.
There is a lingering bittersweetness that courses through the whole story, with sparks of humour and lovely, aching moments when Skylar grabs onto doing things for himself.
The narration is masterfully delivered, allowing Skylar’s personality to become the dimmed star that finally finds it’s way to shine, and gives voice to the warm, caring personality of Dexter.

One small thing I found interesting that I do think could’ve been utilized slightly better in the story is the correlation between Dexter’s passion for working in education, and Skylar’s passion for gardening. Both are the kind of work that it takes time and care until results are seen.

However, I did love the correlation between Skylar’s passion for gardening and his own imprisonment: the garden that was his to care for, but never really his own. Especially the scene where the garden embodies the destruction done by the abusive man he came to depend on, and the one plant that struggled to flourish there, and eventually spread its twigs when it finally had room to grow.

All in all, it was a wonderful story to listen to, and would definitely find a time to relisten in the future.

If you're looking for a very fun and light porn with no explanation other than just the fun of guys getting it on - this book is just what you're looking for!

However, despite what the title suggests there is no A/B/O universe and the reason for using the terminology of Omega or Alpha in this story is yet to remain a mystery unsolved.

The narrator Jason Frazier does a beautiful job of conveying how turned on the MC is... right from the start.
There is no buildup, no change in atmosphere, Everything is told very seductively, but I wish there was a bit more of a build up in the narration choice.

The terminology the author used is also something I felt a bit off. There were a lot of 'helmets' for a something that occurse in a medical exam... not a battlefield...

And for some reason the last sentence was said about an operation ending when... it was an exam.
Or visit.
An operation suggests something else entirely.

So, these were very strange choices of words by the author.

But it was all very sexy and smutty and the surprise visit towards the end was a fun twist!

This book depicts the growing love of two contemporary men who find each other in different stages of life - one, Collins, seasoned tattoo artist who has been around the block of relationships, another, Daniel, who is just discovering the freedom of living away from his family with their deeply seated Christian beliefs and homophobia.

Their budding relationship is challenged over and over with their inner struggles - Collins own eating disorders, and Daniel's conflict with wanting to live his own life yet fear his parents ever finding out.

The relationship developes in a beautiful, natural manner that allows you to slowly understand each character and root for their happiness and HEA.

Michael Ferraiulo skillful narration sucks you smoothly into the flow of thoughts, actions and descriptions.

The writer gives apt descriptions of the unique background of each character, whether Collin's past occupation, how he experiences his eating disorders, or the different ways each character experiences their relationship.

There are many small insights into situations like the Daniel's struggle of wishing to keep his ties to his family despite how hurtful they can become towards him with their homophobic behaviour - without their knowing so.

This book gives you a safe feeling that the characters despite their struggles are going to find a way through, and sometimes that is just what you need from a book.

However, the HEA isnt without a cost and the characters each earn it for themselves and together and the end is a very satisfying one.

A good fantasy story

While i do like fantasy stories, they need a very solid set of principles and chatacter credibility to work and in Prince of Air and Darkness you have it, with John Solo's great flair for dramatic narrating.

This is a very slow burn and the tension is well written.

John Solo excellently delivers the story and its different characters.

And the world building has a fun college drama feel not unlike 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer', with a sort of 'monster of the day' line of story and with the fantasy magic of 'Stardust'.

Despite that towards the end of the story things somehow got away from my understanding...
I admit I didnt understand why Roark was suddenly okay in the end that Phin would take on the mantle of the Knight - something he basically describes as a suicidal role.

And how the sudden frost helped save the farm after Phin's use of magic scorched the fields and crops there is beyond me.

Or why, after Mabe gives her promise she suddenly turns it to striking a deal, and Phin buys into it - when he couldve just as well demanded her to stop trying to bargain, uphold her promise and he and Roark would discuss with her the need to protect the kingdom.

Theres also a large cast of side characters that we dont get to see in the ending which i found disappointing.

Overall I think this story has a solid base and starts off with a lot of promise but in my opinion gets a bit lost towards its conclusion.

Its still a fun dive to a fantasy world, a bit on the dark side if you're fond of torture chambers, and a cute love story following self-imposed forbidden love.

I loved this book. It has a good pace, interesting characters which you can find easy to identify with or otherwise sympathize with and lots of fun dialogues.

And tho at some point completely loses the line focusing on the fencing - which I thought is really a damn shame, it deals with the drama and the relationship of the characters in a very satisfying manner.

The BDSM/sexy parts are beautifully written, and very hot and erotic.

Michael Ferrauilo's russian accent should come with a warning and a fire extinguisher.

Seriously, tho, his smooth voice sucks you in and the way he does the acting for the characters really pulls you into the story.
He has a talent of delivering the story in a way that gets under your skin.

If you're cool with kink, BDSM, and gay romance - this is a really great book to add to your collection.

I loved the dark dubcon side of this book as much as the talk about consent despite the circumstances

The ending is HFN and a whole bunch of stuff os left unresolved, but at least the characters get down and dirty in the best way by the end of the book.

The writing was good and solid and the world building fun!

BUT. I felt like there was a HUGE miss out with Venn's fear of David not wanting him because he was 'damaged goods' and was used by many others.
Also, David's anecdote about his dead parents or being kidnapped when he was younger felt like overkill just to 'HELP MAKE VELL FEEL NOT SO ALONE' when David could just be... his caring self who wants Venn to not feel like he is ever alone.

Anyways, the story still work.

Narration was really good - I loved the different voices each character was given and I enjoyed the sassy lint to David's speech.

I only bemoan the narrator's obvious aversion to moan during the sexy parts.
Maybe he was too self-aware and uncomfortable about it, but he can take some pointers from A+ pros like Joel Lesley, Michael Pauley etc
Because the sexy parts, esp those in the end felt like they could definitely have more... peak.

The Accidental Master was a light fun story to listen to.
I think Kenneth Obi did a good job in doing the characters.

Unfortunately while listening there were many times I couldnt tell apart the character's thought or if they were speaking out and it was very confusing.

The relationship was built nicely, although I think Jackson's transition to be a 'Master' was a little too smoothe and perfect and there couldve been a few misunderstandings and mistakes made to make the story more believeable.

The BDSM aspect seems to be well researched and done in a respectful manner which was a very important highlight in the story.

I think Cooper's enthusiasm was endearing at first but towards the end was exhausting.
I was almost expecting a fallout between the two pups which didnt come.

In a way, things were a little too perfect. The drama only came from the guys past with their families but there was no real conflict or drama in the story itself.

The sexy parts were very sexy and the happy for now ending was delivered with a finale on a sweet note.

This is not something I would reread but if i'll see theres a sequel i'll pick it up.

Lovely short story with sweet two characters. The 'straight' guy isnt exactly that, but then that allows for the Happily Ever After in the end with a dab of kink ;)

The narration was amazing and well acted, very sexy in the erotic parts.

The narration is wonderful and very involving.
Sexy scenes were mouth watering.
I loved the story and plotline overall and Mal was a heart wrenching character. Owen, on the other hand, had this martyr complex that I didnt really understand or could relate to...

Seems like Mal kept getting the shorter end of the stick to the very end, with a very fickle witch who kept doubting him.

I didnt really understand Mals almost too forgiving nature towards Owen after getting betrayed time and again by those he thought he could trust.

After going through all of that Mal was quick to act defensively and way too forgiving in face of Owen's anger against him, while he himself never got his turn to make Owen face his injustice behaviour towards him.

Owen's "sorry" kept coming after things were said and done and Mal kept forgiving him.

Their 'happy for now' ending didnt feel so genuine. Mal and Owen seem to have too many unresolved issues left up in the air between the both of them that are not addressed toward the end of the book, instead the story focuses on the arc plotline and hints at the freedom these characters reached for together.

I suppose the nature of the series is a 'touch and go' for all the couples and so we got to enjoy the beginning of that relationship, naive as it may be.
