Historia
In this New York Times best seller, a naturalist probes the forest to comprehend the secret lives of owls. Leigh Calvez takes listeners on an adventure into the world of owls: owl-watching, avian science, and the deep forest - often in the dead of night. These birds are a bit mysterious, and that's part of what makes them so fascinating.

The book was OK and included some interesting factual information about owls. The narrator was awful. I actually wondered if she was a robot.

Historia
At one time, Corrie ten Boom would have laughed at the idea that she had a story to tell. For the first 50 years of her life, nothing out of the ordinary ever happened to her. She was a spinster watchmaker living contentedly with her sister and their elderly father in the tiny house over their shop in Haarlem. Their uneventful days, as regulated as their own watches, revolved around their abiding love for one another. But with the Nazi invasion and occupation of Holland, everything changed....

Fantastic

I highly recommend this powerful story of love, faith, determination, courage and compassion. The ten Boom family and Corrie and Betsy especially are witnesses to the power of faith even in the most horrific of circumstances. They, with God’s help, were able to find good in every act of evil.

Historia
When Desert Solitaire was first published in 1968, it became the focus of a nationwide cult. Rude and sensitive. Thought-provoking and mystical. Angry and loving. Both Abbey and this book are all of these and more. Here, the legendary author of The Monkey Wrench Gang, Abbey's Road and many other critically acclaimed books vividly captures the essence of his life during three seasons as a park ranger in southeastern Utah.

Wonderful desert musings
Revisado: 04-03-23
The story was great. I lived in Utah for years, and the author perfectly nailed the descriptions of Arches, Moab and the flora and fauna. I preferred the author’s journal writings as opposed to his musings, many of which were rather judgmental. You do have to factor in, though, that the story was written along time ago. I was very distracted by the narrator continually mispronouncing words. I cringed at the mispronunciation of sego lily, talus and Monticello among many others.

Historia
A Natural History of North American Trees gives us a picture of life in America from its earliest days to the middle of the last century. The information is always interesting, though often heartbreaking. While Peattie looks for the better side of man's nature, he reports sorrowfully on the greed and waste that have doomed so much of America's virgin forest.

Excellent book for tree lovers
Revisado: 03-24-22
I found this book to be absolutely fascinating, because of the interesting tidbits shared on each of the trees and the obvious affection that the author holds for some tree species. I enjoyed learning about the uses of the trees including uses by Native Americans. I also enjoyed learning about the wood products that come from each of the tree species. Yes the information is old, however, it was still educational to hear what the environmental issues were 70 years ago.
The narrator, however, I struggled with. He mispronounced so many words including Latin names and location names, that it was very distracting for me. I feel that if you’re going to be a narrator, then you need to do your homework and learn how to pronounce words correctly.

Too much swearing
Revisado: 11-06-21
The author had some excellent information to present, but I struggled to even hear it because of the bad language. It was F this, SH… A..hole… I’m really not sure what the author was trying to get at with all of the bad language. It was completely unnecessary. In fact, it made her seem coarse and uneducated.

At once profoundly personal and far-reaching, Exit Interview with My Grandmother serves as a meditation on the beginning of a young woman’s life and the series of questions that arise from examining love, loss, family, memory, and death. Moving between cities and centuries, Meyersohn probes her family's Jewish history and her grandparents' relationships in part to decipher her own young queer relationships, but also to examine how we ought to behave in the face of a world riddled with uncertainty and doubt.

Historia
Every life reaches that crucial intersection, the place where you must choose your fate, or have it chosen for you. For best-selling author Rich Cohen (The Fish That Ate the Whale, The Last Pirate of New York), it came in a writing workshop senior year in college, when, at 17, he had to knuckle under to a ruthless professor or make a righteous, self-defeating stand.

Laugh out loud funny
Revisado: 07-24-20
This story was so funny. I grew up in Chicago and found his descriptions of the people and suburbs spot on. The incidents with the professor were terrible but so relatable. Herb, the dad, sounds like a real character. I laughed out loud many times while listening. I would highly recommend this story.

Historia
In this “vital, necessary, and beautiful book” (Michael Eric Dyson), antiracist educator Robin DiAngelo deftly illuminates the phenomenon of white fragility and “allows us to understand racism as a practice not restricted to 'bad people'" (Claudia Rankine). Referring to the defensive moves white people make when challenged racially, white fragility is characterized by emotions such as anger, fear, and guilt and by behaviors including argumentation and silence. These behaviors, in turn, function to reinstate white racial equilibrium and prevent meaningful cross-racial dialogue.

Transformative book
Revisado: 06-17-20
I learned so much from this book. I recognized racist comments I made and actions that I had done that I didn’t realize at the time were racist. I have a greater understanding of ‘white supremacy’ and all of the societal benefits my white skin provided. The book is eye opening and thought provoking and will certainly influence my future actions and behaviors.
The narration, however, was robotic. It was almost as though Alexa was reading the book to me without inflection. The narration improves as the book goes on, but it’s never good.
