The great rapport between Ina & Danny
Revisado: 05-13-24
I liked the simple give and take of the conversation and how Danny shared his life experience easily with Ina and in turn with the listener.

Kate Ardleigh is everything the Victorian English gentlewoman is not - outspoken, free-thinking, American...and a writer of the frowned upon penny dreadfuls. Soon after her arrival in Essex, England, a body is unearthed in a nearby archeological dig - and Kate has the chance to not only research her latest story but to begin her first case with amateur detective Sir Charles Sheridan.

The First Book Sets Up An Enjoyable Series
Revisado: 08-30-20
I read this cozy series years ago and remembered it as very entertaining. The Audible version narrated by Helen Johns adds to those good memories and I’m certain I will enjoy “rereading” the series. The first book spends a lot of time familiarizing the reader with Kate Ardleigh and her evolving circumstances. There is a murder(s) but it is I think secondary to the setup of the longer term characters in the series. Make a nice cup of tea and sit down to enjoy a good story. I’m looking forward to revisiting old friends.

Interesting but not much mystery
Revisado: 09-30-19
As with other China Baylee books there is a “herbal” element to the plot. In this case the reader gets an education related to the growing and marketing of vanilla and orchids. What is missing though in this book is much of a mystery and the solution process. Also I like cozies as you get to visit with friends who are part of the continue life of the series. Not much of that here either. So I found this book not very satisfying.

Quirky, funny and sexy
Revisado: 04-11-19
If you are a fan of Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum you will probably like this book. As far as the recording, it is well performed but the “garbage can” technique used when Agnes thinks to herself is hard to understand and annoying.

Spending Another Visit Catching Up w/ The Darling Dahlias
Revisado: 11-29-18
I find reading this series like getting a long letter from a dear old friend. The various plots in this book were interesting and not too detailed. The personalities of the characters are true and evolved over the series. You care about them and share in their dilemmas. Looking fir a cozy? I recommend this series very highly.

Meet Everyone in Victorian Dreadful
Revisado: 11-26-18
This is a Victorian (or Edwardian) mashup of characters assembled for our heroines to match whits with and add their take on the scientific exploration of the day. It’s a great romp and it’s nice to have a diversity in the group including a giantess, a panther woman, a poisonous woman, a few vampires etc. you really want to root for them.

Nice to see Lisbet again, but not an intriguing plot
Revisado: 10-01-18
A mysterious hit that also threatens an abused autistic child is the starting point for another Salandar triumph. Lisbeth will ALWAYS prevail; just accept that and don’t ask too many other questions. Of course, one roots for her calm and well executed malice She cuts to the core no questions asked. Just wish it was more believable and detailed. She’s becoming a super-hero. Not necessarily an improvement in her legend.

Where does Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Top ten
What other book might you compare Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine to and why?
In a way, The Rosie Project series by G. Simsion. Although not traumatized the main character has to develop coping mechanisms to create a better life.
What about Cathleen McCarron’s performance did you like?
Very good. She has the cadence down perfectly and makes Eleanor a very relatable character in spite of her flaws.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Many points: Eleanor realizing that her musician crush is not what he seems; (other spoiler alerts)

It didn’t do it for me!
Revisado: 03-05-18
I can appreciate a coming of age story as well as anyone but this slow paced, “sweet”, struggle was underwhelming. I just can’t relate to someone do Out of touch and not able to express themselves with little or no reason for being that way at least in my opinion. I’m sure some younger readers might identify with these boys and their struggle but at this stage in my life I want stories about people who have problems/adventures/life experiences that are more world centered and it so self centered. Also I don’t believe the conclusion that Ari “saved” Dante from the car in the rain because he loved him as in romantic love. It is very possible to save others due to humanistic rather than carnel love.
