Historia
Sleep is one of the most important but least understood aspects of our life, wellness, and longevity. Until very recently, science had no answer to the question of why we sleep, or what good it served, or why we suffer such devastating health consequences when we don't sleep. Compared to the other basic drives in life - eating, drinking, and reproducing - the purpose of sleep remained elusive.

Historia
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Expected Better
Revisado: 09-25-19
The Martian is my favorite book, possibly of all time, so when I read Artemis I was shocked to find that the dialogue, narrator, and characters felt shallow and unbelievable. Nearly every line reminded me that the story was made up, because real people don't talk like that. with only a few hours left, I abandoned the book.

Historia
Welcome to Derry, Maine. It’s a small city, a place as hauntingly familiar as your own hometown. Only in Derry the haunting is real. They were seven teenagers when they first stumbled upon the horror. Now they are grown-up men and women who have gone out into the big world to gain success and happiness. But the promise they made 28 years ago calls them reunite in the same place where, as teenagers, they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children.

I can handle long books but this one feels it's length. I'm half way through and I can't get myself to read on. there are so many lines that make me feel like shouting "I get it already!" With a little more paring down, this could have been great, but as it is, I can hardly stand it

Topanga Canyon is home to two couples on a collision course. Los Angeles liberals Delaney and Kyra Mossbacker lead an ordered, sushi-and-recycling existence in a newly gated hilltop community: He is a sensitive nature writer, she an obsessive realtor. Mexican illegals Candido and America Rincon desperately cling to their vision of the American Dream as they fight off starvation in a makeshift camp deep in the ravine.

not for me
Revisado: 09-17-19
t. c. Boyle is clearly a skilled writer, but I prefer books with more story and likeable characters. The white man was a hypocrite, and though the Mexican man has good character, the universe betrays him time and time again. The story is so miserable, I struggled to finish. if you like books like that, you'll love this one, as Boyle has a mastery of language

Historia
At the heart of these stories, as with all the best of Lovecraft’s work, is the belief that the Earth was once inhabited by powerful and evil gods, just waiting for the chance to recolonise their planet. Cthulhu is one such god, lurking deep beneath the sea until called into being by cult followers who – like all humans – know not what they do.

Historia
Tenley "Ten" Lockwood is an average 17-year-old girl...who has spent the past 13 months locked inside the Prynne Asylum. The reason? Not her obsession with numbers but her refusal to let her parents choose where she'll live - after she dies. There is an eternal truth most of the world has come to accept: Firstlife is merely a dress rehearsal, and real life begins after death.

Historia
Neil Gaiman has long been inspired by ancient mythology in creating the fantastical realms of his fiction. Now he turns his attention back to the source, presenting a bravura rendition of the great northern tales. In Norse Mythology, Gaiman fashions primeval stories into a novelistic arc that begins with the genesis of the legendary nine worlds; delves into the exploits of the deities, dwarves, and giants; and culminates in Ragnarok, the twilight of the gods and the rebirth of a new time and people.

Cath is a Simon Snow fan. Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan, but for Cath, being a fan is her life - and she's really good at it. She and her twin sister, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow Series when they were just kids; it's what got them through their mother leaving. Reading. Rereading. Hanging out in Simon Snow forums, writing Simon Snow fan fiction, dressing up like the characters for every movie premiere. Cath's sister has mostly grown away from fandom, but Cath can't let go.

Scarily true
Revisado: 07-25-15
As a college student and writer of gay fan fiction and socially awkward geek with social anxiety I can attest to the verity of this book. It is far too true, but in a good way. I'm going to start writing my own stuff now.

A clever romance made unbearable
Revisado: 07-09-13
What didn’t you like about Kevin T. Collins’s performance?
Trying to ignore the aggravating voices and infuriating accents, the fantasy has a clever plot, great characters, and a romance that isn't too cheesy. However, it would seem that the characters were ment to be intelligent and strong willed, not air-headed and soft as Mr. Collins so reads them. If you are at all able, read the book with your own to eyes. This performance is bad enough to ruin the otherwise enjoyable story.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
All of the above.

Who can hate a classic? Or an accent!
Revisado: 07-09-13
What did you love best about The Metamorphosis and Other Stories?
The stories within this book are as strange as anything I've ever read (or rather, heard) in my life! However, reading from a higher-level philosophical standpoint, it is full of mind boggling depictions of human life and priorities which many short stories lack. Yet, it still is full of intrigue and plot, though one might have thought otherwise!
And, of course, Tom Whitworth's reading was wonderful! His voice is calm and deep and full of character and life! Plus, he's got a manly british accent, which is soothing to the ears.
