Historia
Washington, DC, 1950. Everyone keeps to themselves at Briarwood House, a down-at-the-heels all-female boardinghouse in the heart of the nation’s capital where secrets hide behind white picket fences. But when the lovely, mysterious widow Grace March moves into the attic room, she draws her oddball collection of neighbors into unlikely friendship. Grace’s weekly attic-room dinner parties and window-brewed sun tea become a healing balm on all their lives, but she hides a terrible secret of her own.

Historia
Promising architect Peter Young is shot dead at his desk. DCI Craig Gillard is on the scene, looking at what appears to be a brutal and highly professional hit: two bullets, fired with ice-cold calm. Gillard knows that the most crucial question in solving the crime is one word: why? Two weeks later, on the Lincolnshire coast, another body is found on a windswept beach. In this case there is no identity for the young man, just a curious brand burned into his neck....

Historia
William Waters grew up in a house silenced by tragedy, where his parents could hardly bear to look at him, much less love him—so when he meets the spirited and ambitious Julia Padavano in his freshman year of college, it’s as if the world has lit up around him. With Julia comes her family, as she and her three sisters are inseparable: Sylvie, the family’s dreamer, is happiest with her nose in a book; Cecelia is a free-spirited artist; and Emeline patiently takes care of them all.

The story was cute and touched on some themes experienced by minorities. The Spanish was hard to listen to and at times was difficult to understand. The different voices moved the story along well.

Historia
Former Broadway dancer and current agoraphobic Billy Shine has not set foot outside his apartment in almost a decade. He has glimpsed his neighbors--beautiful manicurist Rayleen, lonely old Ms. Hinman, bigoted and angry Mr. Lafferty, kind-hearted Felipe, and nine-year-old Grace and her former addict mother, Eileen. But most of them have never seen Billy. Not until Grace begins to sit outside on the building's front stoop for hours every day, inches from Billy's patio.

The story explores the complicated relationship between sisters marred by the unexplained disappearance of their mother. There are many unexpected events and twists in the story that make it interesting and unpredictable The sisters’ long-held beliefs and assumptions create a difficult and complicated relationship that they need to understand before they can move forward as adults. A good read.

Strong story line with precise descriptions
Revisado: 01-14-24
Although the premise of one twin being able to convincingly take the place of the other with his wife is a stretch, I thoroughly enjoyed the story. The author brilliantly captured the treatment of women, the horrors of being stuck behind the Berlin Wall and the historical context of that time period. I look forward to reading another novel by this author.

Another entertaining story
Revisado: 12-19-23
The use of Tagalog and authentic conversations and Filipino food add greatly to the story. The main character is likable, flawed and dedicated to her family. It makes for a light murder mystery and entertaining read. I enjoy this author’s work and look forward to her next book
