AI Didn't Help a Bloated Story
Revisado: 01-04-25
too long for the material so lots of fluff, with romanic portion belonging more to 80s B movie. The soulless AI narration just made the book seem longer than it really was. AI not recognizing a Jamaican accent but reading the phonetics of it from the dialogues is one of the most jarring things I've ever heard in an audiobook.

Historia
The 15th century saw the longest and bloodiest series of civil wars in British history. The crown of England changed hands five times as two branches of the Plantagenet dynasty fought to the death for the right to rule. Now, celebrated historian Dan Jones describes how the longest reigning British royal family tore itself apart until it was finally replaced by the Tudors. Some of the greatest heroes and villains in history were thrown together in these turbulent times.

Monarchy Fetish
Revisado: 01-04-25
the author tows the tired trope of dynasties, aristocracy and monarchs being the heroes/central focus of history. 'This duke sent a letter to that duke who went to that town to express his displeasure to some earl'. WHO CARES? Historians/authors from the time of Tolstoy have described the great heroic generals/monarchs of an era being just being the spearhead of larger circumstances and social movements/trends. It's like describing a wave by only showing the crest, rather than the rip tide, trough, currents and the ocean it's traveling through. This dullard book is just a recitation of aristocratic records. BORING.

Too Many Tangents and Charactersnd, Hours of Conservative Ideologic Propaganda
Revisado: 10-25-24
Clancy writes every and any subplot, scene, moment, character inner monologue and background that is 5 degrees from every plot point. This makes the story move slowly as nothing is ever summarized, you have to know every surrounding character, all their thoughts and responding actions and then the characters surrounding them too.
A good quarter of the bookis pontificating on infantile conservative policies and propaganda including anti-abortion, equal tax rate across income levels, deregulation, and trickle down economics with cabinet positions going to business leaders. Ironically, that last stinker has been the status quo in the Executive Branch, always filling top agency and cabinet officials with businuss moguls. WE NEED MORE MONEY, MORE POWER FOR THE MILITARY INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX!
The combat, espionage and presidential speeches were really well done. The rest of it is a slog. Both Clancy and Hunter Thompson dedicate their books to Ronald Reagan. Thompson could write about his breakfast and it would still be more concise and thrilling than the thrift-store-filler eptiomes Clancy produces.

not the most gripping CP book
Revisado: 10-25-24
i only made it halfway through, the excessive detail, repetitive character descriptions, the endless parade of old Hollywood name dropping, like every paragraph 5 Hollywood icons mentioned that have no meaning except for the few people still alive who know who they are and fewer still who care. It was worth a chuckle but its a overwritten showboat.

Historia
Imajica is an epic beyond compare: vast in conception, obsessively detailed in execution, and apocalyptic in its resolution. At its heart lies the sensualist and master art forger Gentle, whose life unravels when he encounters Judith Odell, whose power to influence the destinies of men is vaster than she knows, and Pie "oh" pah, an alien assassin who comes from a hidden dimension.

characters started off interesting but then turned into a silly magic world, a creative writing project seeking a premise. A long book of low stake whimsy, not enchanting or scary, only nightmarish for any reader committed to finishing it.

They first appear as a series of dots on astronomical plates, heading from Saturn directly toward Earth. Since the ringed planet carries no life, scientists deduce the mysterious ship to be a visitor from another star. The world's frantic efforts to signal the aliens go unanswered. The first contact is hostile: the invaders blast a Soviet space station, seize the survivors, and then destroy every dam and installation on Earth with a hail of asteriods.

Unashamedly fun sci Fi. Alien morphology was too childish, appearing too much like terran wildlife biology. Alien linguistic approach very interesting. It's worth it for the performance.

Disappointing & Slow
Revisado: 07-11-24
Seems like the story was filled with oversimplified & superfluous storytelling, each chapter could've been half as long with tighter writing. probably elongated to tell a one-book story in a three book series.

Historia
Dunbar-Ortiz adroitly challenges the founding myth of the United States and shows how policy against the Indigenous peoples was colonialist and designed to seize the territories of the original inhabitants, displacing or eliminating them. And as Dunbar-Ortiz reveals, this policy was praised in popular culture, through writers like James Fenimore Cooper and Walt Whitman, and in the highest offices of government and the military.
