Historia
It was in the Spring of 1851 when the letter from the Western Territories arrived on the doorsteps of Rafe McCade’s cabin in central Kentucky. The letter was from Rafe’s brother, Colin, asking him to leave his worn-out Kentucky farm and bring his family to join him in the Rocky Mountains where the land is free, the valleys are green and the Ponderosa pines are tall and majestic. Rafe and his wife Dora are captivated as they read Colin’s letter and in just a few short weeks they set off with their thirteen-year-old son in a covered wagon to St. Louis where they will pick up the Sante ...

Historia
“They’re going to kill me soon,” begins the note Amelia discovers in an antique hurdy-gurdy. From that moment on, the shy young woman finds herself doing all kinds of things she never thought possible. Between newfound intimacies and a risky journey into the past, Amelia comes to see herself in a whole new light. The scrawled note drives Amelia to find out what happened to the person who wrote it, identified only as “Hannah.” Who was Hannah? Was she really murdered? Amelia’s investigation leads her to dizzying new heights of romance and danger. Like a tightrope walker, she must not look down—especially when she finds herself in situations uncannily similar to those Hannah faced just before her murder. Like the Mrs. Pollifax mysteries for which Dorothy Gilman is famous, The Tightrope Walker features a spirited and unpretentious heroine and an intriguing mystery, enhanced by colorful settings and characters. Ruth Ann Phimister’s skillful narration adds a personal dimension, making you care about Amelia and the fascinating and dangerous people she meets.

Historia
When Jennifer Smiley’s grandmother, Ginny, leaves her an old farmhouse on Edgewater Road in seemingly quiet Ross County, Ohio, Jennifer can’t pass up the opportunity for a new beginning. Almost immediately, she meets a group of men who generously help her move in. When she realizes that they work for Lincoln Bennett, her next-door neighbor, she’s intrigued. Lincoln is gorgeous and has dark lapis-blue eyes she could get lost in...but he doesn’t seem all that friendly. She’s torn between getting to know him and sticking with the solitude she knows so well.

Good clean book
Revisado: 06-15-23
I liked the story. Yes Lincoln was controlling but in some relationships where nurturing and trust were never there as a child it feels comforting and as their relationship grows both characters grow and I have no doubt Jennifer could take care and put him in his place when it was really important for. I think it was a good clean story. No jumping into bed on a whim and they took time to gain trust and build love

Revisado: 07-29-21
I liked this story although at the beginning I slowed it down to .8 and later to .9 and it made the narration much easier to relax and listen. I will definitely look for more books about Mauser Dobbs.

Historia
Raised amid the fame and mystique of the Big Top, Charlie Lionheart holds the audience in the palm of his hand. But while his act captivates thousands, it's away from the spotlight where his true heart lies. Here, he humbly cares for his pride of lions as if they were his brothers, a skill of bravery and strength that has prepared him for his most challenging feat yet - freeing an orphaned infant from the dark bondage of a sideshow. It is a trade so costly that it requires his life in exchange for hers, leaving him tarnished by the price of that choice.

Good contrast of bigger town versus little hill towns
Revisado: 10-12-20
my family were from kY and Tn. Hills but they moved to the city before I was born. They took the country ways with them we had a much easier way of life then my cousins who were still there. I graduated high school in 1969 the first ever in our family This book reminded me so much of the hard lives my cousins lived/loved and the way generations repeated the same sad results and poverty

One of the best book series ever
Revisado: 09-26-20
I felt it was a slow start and almost gave up but then decided that maybe it was me who needed to slow down a bit and just enjoy the old ways. I have always been fascinated by the Amish on visits to Washington Indiana and driving through parts of Missouri seeing a horse and buggy always made my heart beat a little faster. Now having listened to all three books I can honestly say that it is one of my favorite books series so far. I love that except for our religion being different and being English. My life had been very much like Sarah’s and true love had finally found me after longing for what would not have been good for me.
