I was very disappointed. They seem to write this from a different point of view then Jack reacher‘s. But I buy the book for Jack reacher. So the uniqueness wasn’t there for me. And I love Jack reacher books.

May be a good story but difficult to tell with a droning near raider
Revisado: 08-12-19
Pay the money and get a really good storyteller. It would make such a huge difference. The writing is pretty good, but it’s difficult to see that with this narrator. It sounds a bit like a dry documentary.

Historia
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

But someone from the neighborhood has taken it upon himself to help solve the cases the police can't or won't touch. They call him IQ. He's a loner and a high school dropout, his unassuming nature disguising a relentless determination and a fierce intelligence.

McLeod Andrews should have been the narrator
Revisado: 07-17-16
What would have made The Last Refuge better?
More show--less tell
What was most disappointing about Bobby Adair and T.W. Piperbrook ’s story?
The way women are treated throughout the whole story is so negative and moronic.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
I know Sean Runette has narrated a lot of books. However even though he is always prepared, I don't care for his voice. I go out of my way avoiding books that he narrates. McLeod Andrews can make any book good.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Throughout all of the books I wanted to hear more about the ancient city and Ivory and his teacher. There was a lightness to that part of the story that was refreshing.
Any additional comments?
I wanted to like the books--and I listened to them. I just wish there wasn't this overall pious tone throughout them, especially regarding women. That was tiresome. The whole story line could've been magical: wonderful. Meaning – it had potential.

Low Opinion of Women
Revisado: 07-12-16
The story had potential. Unfortunately EVERY woman was a dithering, damsel in distress. That singularbviewpoint of women made the story feel very flat.
Where as more seasoned writers could have given/provided greater depth by portraying women in a variety of ways regardless of how broken down the civilization was.
Even in our most repressed cultures in our world today, there are strong women who emerge, showing their strength and bravery in little ways – day-to-day ways – and big ways. I guess I look for that depth and richness in a good story.
