Historia
In the summer of 1990, Eddie Vedder left the surf and sun in San Diego to join a group of friends working to put a new band together in the Seattle underground. Within months, they were anything but underground; they’d found their lead singer, and Vedder went on to lead Pearl Jam on a global takeover of ‘90s culture. In this latest edition of Audible’s Words + Music series, Vedder dives deep, reflecting on a life at the intersection of art, sensitivity, and masculinity.

Timely and interesting
Revisado: 04-27-21
Interesting, timely and thought provoking explanation of gene editing, and, specifically, how women have lead the charge. If you think the Covid vaccine was “made too fast”, then take the time to listen to this audiobook which explains the time span (years), multitude of institutes and diversity of people who collaborated in order to battle the coronavirus and save human lives.
The book is clearly narrated and the speaker has a pleasant voice and cadence.

Historia
The two-time Emmy Award-winning actress has written her first book, a surprisingly raw and triumphant memoir that is outrageous, moving, sweet, tragic, and heartbreakingly honest. Guts is a true triumph - a memoir that manages to be as frank and revealing as Augusten Burroughs, yet as hilarious and witty as David Sedaris.

Honest and witty
Revisado: 08-28-20
I love Kristen Johnston as an actor, and now I love her even more for having the “guts” to tell her truth. With honesty and wit, she tells her story about drug and alcohol addiction, and how she survived her self-destructive ways.
Listening to her distinctive voice and delivery only makes the memoir more riveting.

Historia
Hear singer, songwriter, and actor Nick Jonas lend his voice to the history of one of his favorite subjects: baseball. This unique story is written specifically to help you drift off, with no clear beginning, middle, or end, so you don’t need to follow the details too closely. In it, you’ll hear Nick Jonas describe how Joe DiMaggio and Ted Williams reached legendary status, and how they shaped the three components of a perfect swin.

Baseball time capsule
Revisado: 04-25-20
Even if you only have the vaguest interest in baseball, you’ll enjoy this time capsule of baseball history. Interesting tidbits about DiMaggio and Williams. Now I’m interested in learning more about Ted William and his involvement in civil rights.
As a bonus, it’s narrated by Nick Jonas!

A loving tribute to his mom
Revisado: 04-18-20
There is the life that you are born into, and the life you choose for yourself; which is exactly what McBride’s mother did. This is a loving tribute to his mom, dad, stepdad & siblings. The stories are told in 2 voices, McBride’s and his mother’s; they are brilliantly crafted and composed. I didn’t want the book to end.

Historia
William Warwick has always wanted to be a detective, and decides, much to his father’s dismay, that rather than become a lawyer like his father, Sir Julian Warwick QC, and his sister, Grace, he will join London’s Metropolitan Police Force. After graduating from university, William begins a career that will define his life: from his early months on the beat under the watchful eye of his first mentor, Constable Fred Yates, to his first high-stakes case as a fledgling detective in Scotland Yard’s arts and antiquities squad.

Revisado: 11-03-19
I enjoyed the well crafted writing of this story from start to finish. Just as the plot and the characters were becoming too sweet & vanilla; an unsavory and compromising decision is made. That decision and the surprise ending will change everything in the future. I look forward to the next installment.

Disappointingly dull
Revisado: 10-29-19
I was expecting a lot & was disappointed even more. The story starts out interestingly enough, but quickly nosedives into a word salad of inane conversations and situations between unlikable, boring characters. The plot is a steady slog of pointlessness—what did her dad and missing mom have to do with anything? Just as dull is the narrator who sometimes gives the main character a Boston accent (probably not a good one either), and other times not. Same with the N.Y. city characters and their accents—on & off. I increased the listening speed to 1.5 and skipped minutes at a time just to get through this novel.

Historia
Nashville, August 1920. Thirty-five states have ratified the Nineteenth Amendment, 12 have rejected or refused to vote, and one last state is needed. It all comes down to Tennessee, the moment of truth for the suffragists, after a seven-decade crusade. The opposing forces include politicians with careers at stake, liquor companies, railroad magnates, and a lot of racists who don't want black women voting. And then there are the "Antis" - women who oppose their own enfranchisement, fearing suffrage will bring about the moral collapse of the nation.

Enlightening
Revisado: 08-15-19
Enlightening account of suffrage, as well as, the beliefs of the anti-suffragettes. The right for women to vote, to be treated as individual citizens and not the property of a man, was only achieved through DECADES of perseverance and hard work by suffragettes. Everyone should know their stories and the hardships they endured.

Historia
Joe Gould, a madman, believed he was the most brilliant historian of the 20th century. So did some of his friends, a group of modernist writers and artists that included E. E. Cummings, Marianne Moore, William Carlos Williams, John Dos Passos, and Ezra Pound. Gould began his life's work before the First World War, announcing that he intended to write down nearly everything anyone ever said to him. "I am trying to preserve as much detail as I can about the normal life of everyday people," he explained, because "as a rule, history does not deal with such small fry."

Fascinating & disturbing true story
Revisado: 04-06-19
This is a true story that centers around a reprehensible male writer & a talented female sculptor in NYC during the Harlem Renaissance. Joe Gould’s behavior is disturbing, but somehow he ekes out a living in the literary world. Meanwhile, Augusta Savage has to fight for every opportunity in the art world while being stalked & harassed by him. He is protected by friends & the law; being an African American woman, she is not, and therefore, has no recourse.
The author’s lively reading makes the book come alive. It is a fascinating story about mental health, sexual harassment & race issues from the 1920’s to 1960’s.
