Cliché listacles drone on
Revisado: 04-18-25
I was interested in this book for the career relevance.
My curiosity was peaked for the GenAI voice factor.
I was ultimately disappointed by the abject lacy of editing.
The content is packed with aging tropes and material that been published elsewhere.
the voicing, though pleasant, suffered for all the pregnant pauses aphrasing. cadence in phrasing.
The nail in the coffin was the reading of so many indexes... that is and absolute waste of compute time and in this book... personal time.
I'm sure GenAI will lean to improve rapidly, but this book is not worth the time.

Historia
Spices drove the early modern world economy, and for Europeans they represented riches on an unprecedented scale. Cloves and nutmeg could reach Europe only via a complex web of trade routes, and for decades Spanish and Portuguese explorers competed to find their elusive source. But when the Portuguese finally reached the spice islands of the Moluccas in 1511, they set in motion a fierce competition for control.

Samuel Roukin's superb narration enhances Roger Crowley's "Spice," vividly bringing to life the dramatic historical arc of the spice trade. His compelling delivery captures the exotic allure and brutal realities of a pivotal era of world discovery. "Spice" delivers a fascinating journey through distant lands and cutthroat competition of those seeking to risk everything for the power, wealth and recognition that spice could provide.

How these groups come together in this "spirits world" is the subject of this fascinating new book by the acclaimed ethnobotanist Gary Paul Nabhan and the pioneering restauranteur David Suro Piñera.

The Heart of Mezcal: Terroir in a Copita
Revisado: 03-15-25
"Agave Spirits: The Past, Present, and Future of Mezcals" unveils the captivating and complex world of mezcal. Authors Nabhan & Pinera skillfully contrast the rich, traditional methods of dedicated mezcaleros with the harsh realities of mass production and the resultant homogenous spirits born from industrialization. By showcasing how agave diversity yields the unique flavors of artisanal mezcals, they underscore the value of terroir and craft. More than a celebration of the spirit and its talented makers, the book reveals a critical imperative: preserving the ecological diversity of agave. These spirits deserve respect for their heritage, ancestral techniques, and sustainable practices that imbue the true complexity experienced in the copita.
"Agave Spirits" is a crucial read for those seeking to understand the delicate balance between tradition and progress in agave spirits, and Adi Cabral's nuanced narration perfectly complements this powerful work.

Historia
Is Italian olive oil really Italian, or are we dipping our bread in lamp oil? Why are we masochistically drawn to foods that can hurt us, like hot peppers? Far from being a classic American dish, is apple pie actually...English? Matt Siegel sets out “to uncover the hidden side of everything we put in our mouths”. Siegel also probes subjects ranging from the myths - and realities - of food as aphrodisiac, to how one of the rarest and most exotic spices in all the world (vanilla) became a synonym for uninspired sexual proclivities.

In looking closely, we see that plants, rather than imitate human intelligence, have perhaps formed a parallel system.

I've been curious about Buddism for 40 years after being introduced to a small book: the Prophet by Khalil Gibran. My time in college lead to a fascination with Japanese art, language and culture.
These lectures provide a wonderful introduction to the origination and history of the Religion and its with through time.
I have so much more to learn.
