Historia
Phoebe, the soulless child, has been raised by her adoptive father, Eric—the universe-hopping vampire wizard from the future. After all, who better to raise a soulless infant than an undead monster? He did his best to raise her right. He made certain she was well-educated. He picked a reasonably decent culture for her to grow up in. He trained her in her powers, taught her everything he could, and even broadened her horizons by touring other worlds, other times, other histories—and some futures!

Excellent as always, had the same vibe as the original
Revisado: 03-13-23
My main disappointment with this book is that it means I have to wait longer for the next one in the night Lord series.
I thought this was a great addition to the series and with the power of creep of the night lord series phoebe really needed her own space to shine, and I feel like this gave her that opportunity. The subtitle of the book was very accurate.

I didn't want it to end
Revisado: 03-23-22
At a glance, I was turned off by how short it was since I tend to blast through audiobooks. However, I love anything vampire and decided to give this a shot and it was absolutely worth it.
The music was a bit disorienting at first only because I'm not used to hearing it. Ultimately it faded into the background and provided the underlining mood and a blanket for the sound effects to seem less sudden and jarring.
I also enjoyed the blend of vampires and the hierarchy therein. The originality in the ability of the MC was both simple and direct but ultimately intriguing. I hadn't thought of that as a power before and instantly started thinking of how I could implement an antagonist/protagonist into my tabletop games depending on which way the players treat the NPC.
Overall the performers, the story, and the production as a whole were amazing. I would absolutely be interested in watching this as a mini-series.

Teenage wet dream and power fantasy
Revisado: 01-06-22
I bought this as a box set and wish I hadn’t waited so long to listen to it so that I could have returned it.
In fairness, I believe the performs did the best they could with what they had.
*Spoilers below*
There were numerous discrepancies with how traumatic an event was supposed to have been and how the main character actually dealt with it
I don’t mind harem romances and relationships but having the women literally throwing themselves at him with little to no relationship building and then only minimal emotional turmoil between all of those involved seems so unrealistic.
Also the tiers of power I can understand and is a cool idea but when you have individuals who have devoted their life to ascending and have made minimal to decent progress and then you have some dude show up and miraculously just flies through every tier and is gifted powers left-right and upward. The struggle is absolutely lost.
I wanted so badly to just abandon this book but the completionist in me had to finish so I put the book on 3 times normal speed and did my best to grit my teeth through to the end.
Sadly the end was just as disappointing. For this tower supposedly being so damn difficult the MC sure made quick and easy work of it. There was no finesse, no problem solving of any significance, just brute force your way through the whole damn thing with all the powers you'd been given and "oh look" more power at the end. I've have never been so glad to hear those final words "Audible hopes you have enjoyed this program"

18th installment in this series and still amazing
Revisado: 06-17-20
The relationship followed somewhat of an expected route but that's not to say it wasn't satisfying. The character development felt on point and thus even though you could see where the relationship was headed and where the bumps were going to occur, It felt right for it to happen that way. There was only one spot that felt forced just a bit but it was almost necessary to keep the relationship on track without adding undue meandering to the characters' arcs.
Additionally, not to give away spoilers but, it was nice to see a new conflict get thrown into the mix. The twist caught me off guard. You have to love it when the author can throw a curveball you simply don't see coming until it smacks you in the face. Forcing you to pause the story and stop listening while your brain takes a moment to rework the story's potential outcomes because everything you thought you knew was going to happen is now totally invalid.
Last and definitely not least, I don't know that I could listen to this series performed by anyone else. Jim's voice is synonymous with this series for me and I wouldn't have it any other way. The characters are unique without being overly portrayed and everyone is still easy to understand.
Thank you, J.R. Ward and Jim Frangione for another great addition to the series. I eagerly awaiting the next.

Excessive Unnecessary and Fake Drama
Revisado: 05-26-20
I enjoyed the first one enough to give the second book a shot. I should have just called it done after the first one.
"Excessive Unnecessary and Fake Drama" sums up every issue I have with the second installment of this series.
The narrator, Anglea Dawe, did a beautiful job. Each character had a distinct voice and I was able to clearly picture each of them in my mind every time I heard them. While I didn't enjoy the content I can't fault her for what she was given to perform.

Definitely worth the credit
Revisado: 01-29-20
I'd been avoiding this one for months, if not a year now, and finally gave it a shot. Given the cover art and the pun for a title I was expecting something cringe-worthy but was delighted to find myself laughing and genuinely enjoying the "tasty" journey. I'm actually a bit saddened that I have to wait for my next credits to continue listening. Just another example of "don't judge an audible listen by its cover art"

Ineresting listen
Revisado: 01-27-20
It feels as though some of the elements just pop up out of no where to satisfy a need in the story but given how short it is, i don't know that there would be time to build the scene fully to showcase what resources were and were not available. In short, you end up on a roller coaster ride of sass, tech, cats, and action.

Historia
Betrayal cuts deepest when someone you love wields the knife. For Kellik, a once-rising star of Port Gloom's guild of thieves, it also leaves him floating in the bay, bleeding out and without hope or allies. Saved by an urchin and healed by a disgraced saint, Kellick is consumed by a single desire: to find out why his guild master ordered him cut down moments after passing his initiation trial. Burning with injustice, Kellik recruits a number of gorgeous rogues to his side: fallen assassins, dark elf witches, and unnervingly polite necromancers.

An Adult D&D adventure that holds your attention.
Revisado: 05-07-19
As I said, this is an adult oriented Dungeons & Dragons style story.
There are numerous sex scenes, but done in a way that they do not get boring. Each encounter leaving a different taste in your mouth, if you will.
Additionally this isn’t just smut. There was definitely a lot of thought and effort that went into this. As most topics that seemed to not make sense one moment, were explained shortly there after. Most of the time those explanations only leaving you with more questions as to further implications. I only found one topic that didn’t sit well with me but I recognize it as a personal preference and not actually anything against the writing itself. I don’t want to speak to it though as it could be a bit of a spoiler.
Overall, the pacing was good, the MC was likable and fleshed out thoroughly, the love interests were equally as unique as were the supporting characters, the story as a whole was interesting, and in true D&D fashion there were some curve balls that really seem to come out of nowhere but it just made it all the more interesting.
