Relatable testimony
Revisado: 09-23-24
This was an easy book to listen to and the narration was on point. I started the book and didn’t want to put it down. It is a true testimony that I feel many could relate to and the author gives you examples of how to overcome each obstacle. Even acknowledging his own struggles and challenges along the way. This would be a great Bible study book to share with the congregation of your church in small groups that you could help others who are struggling through life. It gives a time of reflection at the end of each small chapter. I highly recommend reading this book. It is a short read but packed full of golden nuggets along the way.

Strong female lead historical fiction
Revisado: 02-22-24
This was a good storyline. I fell in love with Claudia and the story of her life. While the story was about a beautiful strong female, there were a lot of swearing and sexual content that just turned me off while reading. I received an arc copy of this book and really felt that I needed to give a fair and honest review of the material. In my honest opinion, the writer could have gotten the point across without the foul language and graphic sexual content. When I find a lot of swearing in a book, I usually just DNF it. Swearing in my opinion shows a person’s lack of intellectual ability to communicate effectively. I felt that I owed the author a fair and balanced review so I kept going. While I am glad that I did because the story was a nice story, I would have cringed and hit fast forward on a lot less pages of the book if the written material wasn’t so bad in areas. I do feel it was easy to follow the reader and I did get a little bit aggravated with the racism and sexism that was in the book but I also know that this book was being told from a black woman’s point of view in a time of hatred for the African American and segregation, therefore, I pushed through and accepted the criticism. Being that I didn’t live in such an era, it makes it difficult for me to personally understand why people are so skewed in their beliefs of a particular race. I did take into account that the raw feelings were most likely felt by the writer so it made it most likely quite difficult at times to write some of this book. I hope to read more of this author’s work and hope that she doesn’t use a lot of foul language and sexual content in her other writings because that will certainly make me feel that this author isn’t the one for me. But hey, to each their own. Overall I give a 4/5 on the book. Some of the characters and experiences also seemed a little rushed and unfinished at times too.

A beautiful storyline
Revisado: 06-18-23
I can’t say enough about the author and narrator of these books. I fall in love with each of them. It’s almost as if I am watching a movie as I listen to her work. I can’t wait to purchase another one of Laila’s books. She knows how to keep the reader’s attention and although there are some harsh events that happen at times. All of her books seem to have a realistic approach to the setting. She writes with purpose and her work is absolutely amazing. Can’t wait for the next adventure. With Elizabeth being all grown up now, it is such a good storyline as we learn more about her character and her family that she has built and the strong bond that is formed among the characters is beautiful. I could listen to this author ever day and the narrator knows how to bring life to the characters as they are read aloud.

Absolutely beautiful
Revisado: 06-03-23
I couldn’t stop listening, this was a beautiful work by Lisa Wingate again! She always seems to know how to make the words flow upon the page. The descriptions are just right, it’s almost like watching a movie. I am so glad I chose to read this one. The characters were perfect for the book. I fell in love with each of them. What a beautiful place I’ve been as I have walked through the lives of these beautiful people that were brought together by disaster to mend old wounds and discover a beautiful life ahead of them.

Historia
When Annalee Ahlberg goes missing, her children fear the worst. Annalee is a sleepwalker whose affliction manifests in ways both bizarre and devastating. Once, she merely destroyed the hydrangeas in front of her Vermont home. More terrifying was the night her older daughter, Lianna, pulled her back from the precipice of the Gale River Bridge.

Slow read but I finished
Revisado: 03-31-22
I was taken aback on this book because I had read Chris’ other book Midwives and was expecting a nice clean read. Well, this book was complete opposite. I can appreciate that in an author. This book was really a slow read, it kept dragging along and I wasn’t really wanting to continue, but I hate to stop when I start a book. Overall, I give it a 4 out 5 rating because of the slowness and I really didn’t care for any of the characters in the story. There was also a lot of sex in this story. I’m not really big into reading sec scenes. This book had a lot of twist and a surprise ending. With that being said, I would recommend reading the book. Especially if you’re okay with some foul language and sex. This book and the storyline just didn’t jump out at me.

Intriguing, beautiful, heartfelt, better than the movie
Revisado: 02-25-22
This book is so much better than the movie and the movie was excellent! I can’t say enough about this author and her ability to take the reader into the world she was trying to portray. Once I started, I didn’t want to put it down. This is one of the best books I’ve ever read and I highly recommend that anyone looking for a good read, this is it. I will never look at chocolate pie the same. The narration in this novel was excellent. I have yet to find a book that Bahni Turpin narratives that I don’t fall in love with, she really knows how to tell a story. All of the narrators in this novel did an excellent job. This book is one of those books that will forever live inside my heart.
