Dissapointing
Revisado: 08-19-24
The story should have delighted me. I love turn of the century New York, police procedurals and baseball. The plot was thin and the characters confusing, but the narration was terrible. AI cannot replace actors. Monotone delivery, staccato dialogue and a lack of vocal variety made this story just awful to listen to. I'm

Historia
Forty years ago, Steven “Smithy” Smith found a copy of a famous children’s book by disgraced author Edith Twyford, its margins full of strange markings and annotations. When he showed it to his remedial English teacher Miss Iles, she believed that it was part of a secret code that ran through all of Twyford’s novels. And when she later disappeared on a class field trip, Smithy becomes convinced that she had been right.

too long

the story is too long and complicated. the narration has a computer generated feel so as to be true the story, but beeps for swear words and the narrator repeating "inaudible" and "bakgrpund noise" are annoying and tedious

I thought this would a funny mystery like Agatha Raison or Hamish MacBeth. it's a regency novel focused on manners and marriage.

dis jointed plot. the plot may have been unbelieveable in 1990. in 2024, this would not cause anyone to think twice.

Historia
Golden Globe-winning actor Michael C. Hall (Six Feet Under) performs Truman Capote's masterstroke about a young writer's charmed fascination with his unorthodox neighbor, the "American geisha" Holly Golightly. Holly - a World War II-era society girl in her late teens - survives via socialization, attending parties and restaurants with men from the wealthy upper class who also provide her with money and expensive gifts. Over the course of the novella, the seemingly shallow Holly slowly opens up to the curious protagonist.

I suppose that this is a story about monsters, but the dialogue gets lost with all the screaming and crashing going on. I guess that I prefer more cerebral terror.

Historia
Written to commemorate the Bicentennial in 1976, James A. Michener's magnificent saga of the West is an enthralling celebration of the frontier. Brimming with the glory of America's past, the story of Colorado - the Centennial State - is manifested through its people: Lame Beaver, the Arapaho chieftain and warrior, and his Comanche and Pawnee enemies; Levi Zendt, fleeing with his child bride from the Amish country; and the cowboy, Jim Lloyd, who falls in love with a wealthy and cultured Englishwoman, Charlotte Seccombe.

grear story
Revisado: 04-22-23
great story. Michener makes history come alive by following the lives of people, both ordinary and extraordinary by telling very human stories. in 1974, we may have needed an author to preach about climate protection, it was off-putting as and to an otherwise heroic tale.
