This exceeded my expectations. You know these teachers or professors that genuinely love their subject and give amazing classes? This is how I felt when listening to this recording. Professor Lupovitch examines the history of the Jewish people, starting from the stuff we hear in the Bible. It's honestly quite fascinating to hear these names and learn the history. A lot of times, I was saying "aha" to myself, when an ancient tradition made more sense to me through this book.

For example, it's interesting to learn how the Jewish people interacted within their communities and with other people and how their religion, traditions and historical faith made these ripples we see today. I highly recommend this book.

The human tragedy of the Final Solution is so huge that it's often hard to study. We need to look at hundreds of years of Jewish, Christian, European and overall world history to understand this event. This book is a very useful introduction to that research. As the author. Howard Lupovitch, says you can fill huge rooms not only with books written about the Holocaust but also with books written about books written about the Holocaust.

I've also listened to other lectures from Lupotivtch, who's an expert on Jewish history, especially Eastern European Jewish history. This gives him an advantage when it comes to Holocaust studies, as they are often too focused on the direct human cost. Overall a very informative read on this very unique and very modern event.

We shouldn't forget the Holocaust because, with the advancement of technology, such mass killing is becoming more and more technologically convenient for those in power.

The common sense of not always relying on common sense may be nonsensical. This sounds weird, but it was one of my thoughts while listening to Schwartz.

Wisdom is a tricky thing, but here, it’s explored in a way as to make it less of a mystical knowledge only old people have and more of a sensible way of approaching the world.Highly recommended.

Does history make myths or do myths make history?

This has been a question that interested me in a long time. For example, when we see the actual, historically-accurate depictions of ancient Rome or the Wild West, we would be shocked at the differences between what was and what is in our minds. Statues aren't white, cowboys didn't go around shooting each other constantly, and so on.

This book examines how these mental pictures form in our collective imagination. It's really interesting how real story can turn into myth and myth into history.

Would give it a new listen soon.

Happiness is often said to be an internal process.

We should be happy on our own. While that’s important, it’s also important to note that interpersonal relationships and connections are just as important. People are social animals, we shouldn’t forget that.

In this book, the connections are examined as being almost as important as warmth and shelter. A hug can be just as important as a warm meal. Very fascinating stuff, worth a listen.

Personally, I've tried meditating many times.

It didn't work. Not because I'm some dummy who's bad at it, but because it was explained to me in the wrong way. Meditation isn't about turning your brain to a blank page. In fact, quite the opposite. It's about finding a new page filled with meaning and learning how to appreciate it.

Gentile's method is fascinating. This book was great.

Forget Enemy at the Gates and Cold War propaganda. The Second World War was a very complex, very brutal time and this books illustrates why. Instead of the advanced, sophisticated Nazi technology getting overwhelmed by a horde of soldiers, you see two armies more or less equal in many respects.

Would recommend!

Boxing and history

Boxing is one of those sports that's filled with drama, no matter which way you look at it. It's in the ring, it's behind the scenes, it's in the politics of it, the daily life of the boxers, everywhere. It's not coincidence so many great movies are based around the boxing genre.

But who knew the history can also be so fascinating?

In this book, I learned so much about what boxing represented and how it developed. I always saw it as guys punching each other, but they could also include other things. The racial conflicts, the conflicts between nations, and the personal conflicts between egos.

Highly recommended!

Really surprised by the production quality. It’s not really an audiobook in the traditional sense, interviews and dramatic readings are woven into the recording. It feels like a great narrative, like audio from a high-end documentary that you hear. You don’t even need a picture, as the audio paints everything. Highly recommended!

A fascinating take on America’s role in the world

Professor Robert K. Brigham examines US history from the country’s foundation to the present day. The complex relationship between world trade, military power, and constitutional law is analysed to give a cohesive picture on how the United States of America became “The Surprising Superpower.”

Brigham’s focus on foreign policy makes this an even rarer view on American history from 1788 onwards. Trade and international relations are analysed on par with the great victories on the battlefield and the romanticized dreams of a new world. A great listen!
