I like how a lot of elements weren’t introduced until they were upon you. Every ten minutes was unlike the ten minutes that preceeded it.

Historia
Investigative journalist Laura Chambers is back in her tiny hometown of Hillsborough, North Carolina, the one place she swore never to return. Fired from The Boston Globe, her career in shambles, she reluctantly takes a job with the local paper. The work is simple, unimportant, and worst of all, boring - at least until a missing girl turns up dead, the body impeccably clean, dressed to be the picture of innocence. Years earlier, 10-year-old Patty Finch left home and never made it back. But for the people of Hillsborough, Patty was just the beginning.

The people besides us
Revisado: 05-20-24
I liked that this book investigates the people beside us. It could be you, it could be me, it could be anyone and it’s definitely someone… so creepy and entertaining.

Creepy and intimate
Revisado: 05-17-24
I enjoyed this book. I devoured it. How creepy and intimate of a storyline. From the themes of stalking and more just not what I expected and I was surprised that I found myself with tears at the end. So powerful and again, so creepy.

Tara ate that audio up!
Revisado: 01-01-24
I always liked the character of Tara and woooow she delivered full send. I’ve been a fan for decades and it was so fun to listen and revisit old friends with a new twist. I never saw any of that coming! I was so excited to hear there’s a Tara and Anya and oh my gosh Cordy was back too! And Giles. I think Spike needs a Grammy cuz that’s James is something else.

More Jodi podcasts in the future please!
Revisado: 12-28-23
Jodi shared so much more in this interview than I had heard about her before and I’ve been a fan since high school health class when Ms. Lovelady played The Pact for us and that’s when my obsession with Jodi’s storytelling began. Then when I found a copy of my sisters keeper donated to my foster group home I really connected to wanting to chose my own path, right and then just wow a story that hit so hard and then was adapted for screen with a different storyline… in summation: more Jodi please.

I enjoyed the visuals that the book produced in my mind… it was creepy and felt so real. What a story, too! I didn’t expect the random seeming twists.

One moment June Nealon was happily looking forward to years full of laughter and adventure with her family, and the next she was staring into a future that was as empty as her heart. The world has given him nothing, and he has nothing to offer the world. In a heartbeat, though, something happens that changes everything for him.

Second time reading and wow
Revisado: 12-23-23
I enjoyed reading and feeling the “what ifs” with the story… what if this man on death row is the symbol of a savior? What if he/ she lives/ dies? What if we stop and think about changing hearts? Oh it’s so good! I’ll probably read it again and a million more times.

5 stars all around. The story line was riveting and I have honestly not heard a story like this one before. I was hooked. The reader had such good accents too!! Irish and Australian accents were jaw droppingly good. Must be an actual Australian?? I was sweating with the story’s flames along with the characters. So good! This is a must read!
